Do your kids sit still at mealtime?

My 4yr old son is very active in mind and body, and come mealtimes, this doesn't change. He squirms, he wriggles, he tips and he slides down and around on his chair just about every time he eats. My wife and I ask him to sit still, which he does for about 2 seconds, and starts again. Are your kids the same, and if so, do you have any tips to stop this, or is this just one of those kid things we have to put up with?!?

I'm just so glad to hear my child is not the only one. I was hoping it was just a phase he is going through. I don't have any real solutions to the problem. It's a constant battle to tell him to sit still and eat. Good luck!

Well, I am also glad to hear my son isn't the only one! I also think that maybe it is yet another phase he is going through. I don't know how many times I've waited for him to get through each one, some more annoying than others, lol!

I have also 4 years old daughter who did the same when it comes to eating time. When we are eating at home, it won't be such a problem since I'll just let her watching TV while eating than temporary my poblem is solved. But when we eating out...I have to come up with quick solution before she start climbing, running around, etc since her father makes it even worse (he'll play with her too...grrrr). Normally I'll have a set of drawing stuff in my bag or some educational/build up toys. So, I'll give her that next to her meal and she'll sit and eat her meals nicely. It works for me (for now...hehehe) so I hope it will help you too....good luck !!!

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm not sure that the drawing thing would work, my son would then try to forget about eating, full stop!! He loves to draw more than eat, lol!I don't envy the fact your hubby stirs up your daughter, that only happens at the grandparents with my son, and makes things twice as hard. I'll give your idea a try though, and see what happens.

Very normal dont worry most of the kids are the same at food and i think he stii need time to understand the importance of food and make learn its importance and tell him what happens if he does this evry time as his health gets spoil and even seeing his behaviour his friends will hate him and like so..... All the best.

Yes we are constantly reminding him how good food is for a growing boy, but he usually says he knows that already, lol! We'll just persevere and he'll eventually learn how to sit still. Hopefully, lol!
