I have driven both a manual/stick and automatic transmission car. Both have it's own advantages and disadvantages. Automatic are convenient to drive and proven particularly in steep and high level road where you will not be afraid of sliding down. While in manual/stick, you could easily get to the speed and gear you wanted to run. How about you, what do you prefer to drive and why?

I never have a chance to drive automatic car, so I don't know how it works. Therefore, I will carry on driving manual car and believe with it.

Better to try one and you will find how easier it is to drive automatic. It is also good to learn first the manual before shifting to automatic.

Thanks. I may try one in future. Maybe it will be cheaper than the manual one too. Hehehe...

So far we only owned manual/stick cars. But when it's time for summer vacation and if we're planning on to take a long trip to other country....we will the rent an automatic transmission car as it is more comfortable and relaxing with gear shifting and speed for a long winding road that has no traffic. Hummm, maybe in the future they will also create a car that can drive itself. All we have to do just get in, give destinations and enjoy the trip...no worries about driving nor get sleepy....hehehe

Just can't wait to have that type of car my friend. Like in the futuristic movies where all you have to do is tell your destination and the car will automatically drive you there.

I am currently driving a manual but I would love to drive an automatic car again. My previous car was an automatic car and it was really convenient to drive especially when I got stuck in the traffic congestion. My next car would definitely be an automatic one.

I'm also thinking about that, if ever I would change my car I will go for automatic transmission. My feet is aching and getting tired of pushing every now and then the pedals.

At least you have experienced driving a manual transmission. They say it will be easier to learned first driving a manual than vice versa (automatic to manual).

I have no way of knowing because both our cars are the manual type. But if I can drive the manual, with a few minutes of practice, I can drive the automatic type, too. In driving, estimating the distance and width of the road vis-a-vis other vehicles is a must skill. Moving the car is one thing; estimating distance of objects relative to the car you're driving is another. I still prefer to drive the manual because that's what my husband says...he is good at vehicles, parts and servicing, so I believe him as he is the expert. I also read a very exhaustive discussion around here as to why the manual type is still better, but I can't remember them now. Happy driving...

The automatic transmission has a limited amount of slip built into it, the manual transmission is, when operating properly, a direct drive system. The manual transmission is, therefore, more fuel efficient than the automatic transmission. I must take issue with the safety factor which has been purported in some of these responses. The only thing I see under the safety factor is that the automatic transmission COULD lull the driver into less attentive driving, but I think it is of almost no consequence. I learned to drive with an automatic transmission, and think it is better to LEARN with one, since the beginner will only have to be concerned with learning to put it in gear and go. I think it is better not to put too many things into the equation at first. Other things can be brought into this action later, after having learned the basics.

I do not have a preference. I can drive anything that exists. If I were to have a preference, it would depend on which kind of driving I am anticipating. If I were driving in heavy traffic, I might prefer an automatic transmission for the ease of getting into the flow of traffic. If, on the other hand, my driving were to be on an interstate type of highway it probably wouldn't matter at all.

If someone actually comes up with a vehicle that has both kinds of transmission in one car, I would buy it and drive it. I seriously doubt that it will ever happen, though.

It would be very nice to have this 2 types of transmission. You could choose the most applicable one for the trip you will be undertaking.

You're right about that particularly during traffic where you have to shift everytime from first to second gear and always holding on the clutch and brake pedal.

You are right, it is easy and relaxing to drive. Try to avoid traffic, I think it consume more fuel in this type of situation.

Hello tholitz I have driven both of them. I just can say manual is good for traffic jam LOL. But I do like manual one, we can control the speed, and drive more faster. Even I ma a girl but I don't like in low speed. fast fast and fast I like to drive in high speed, and sometimes automatic is to slow in the first move. So I choose the manual one. Go racing LOL *angel www.beautycosmetictips.com
