About a year and a half ago, I began building my website. I sell children's bracelets. www.sherswares.com With little or no money to put toward advertising, I began my search for free ways of getting traffic to my site. At that time I knew little or nothing about search engines, keywords or meta tags. After searching the web, (I'm still searching), I have found a few free ideas that have helped me. I'm going to list some I've found here and I hope others will share what they have found in way of free advertising. First off, I'm not going to tell you anything that will get you rich quick. I'm sick of all the hype out there. I will share tips that we can use to not only advertise our sites, but ways to monitor it. How do we know if we're increasing our traffic if we don't have a way of monitoring it? But... all this takes time. It doesn't happen over night! a. Find your niche and make contact with people that have websites that compliment yours. Let me give you an example. As you all know, I make and sell children's jewelry. So, I searched around and found WAHM sites. Work At Home Moms. These women want to stay home with their children so they have networked together with other mom's. Each one offers a link exchange program. That way they get far more than double the exposer. I have become a part of this group. Some sell children's clothing, some hair clips and some sell jewelry, but it doesn't matter with this group. They're a wonderful group to be affiliated with and in my estimation, brilliant for working together like they do. I have a book for sale, only $6.99, on my blog that gives more information for work at home "people" than you can absorb in one reading. Excellent for getting you motivated when you need it, too. You can find it at www.sherswares.com/anotherjourney. b. There are certain search engines that allow free submission. Google, Submitshop.com, Ineedhits.com to mention a few. You can also submit your site to directories such as Alexa.com. I really like this site. You receive all kinds of stats about your own site. All FREE. c. Write an article. It's best if you can get, your website link, on someones else's site that is extremely busy. I have been able to write articles about my business and have them posted in ezines and popular websites that can help me get exposer. I was shocked that, I, could get on these site. One is Beadbugle.com (an ezine) and the other is Pizazz.com. d. One more thing real quick. Keywords and meta tags are extremely important. These are the words the search engine "spiders" look for when they ad your site. More on keywords and site monitoring later. I could go on and I will if anyone's interested. Also, please share what you have learned to bring traffic to your web site. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sher :)
