1 Corinthians 6:20

Vanitas - Death hiding behind a mask of beauty, often used to represent vanity.

"For ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body." (ASV) Self esteem is a huge issue in our society today. Television and magazines tell women that we have to be six feet tall, thin as a rail, and perfectly dressed and styled. Men are supposed to be thin but muscular, powerful, strong, and always in charge of their emotions and the world around them. Eating disorders, steroid abuse, plastic surgery, botox and other forms of self-destructive behavior are on the rise. And all the while we take it in. We wish we could look more like the celebrities on the screen. We strive for the "ideal" body. We forget that we have already been "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14) Please read the rest of the article on my blog, http://bun-girl.blogspot.com/2007/06/1-corinthians-620.html

I so much appreciate your thoughts and writings. My wife is the girls dean at the school where I teach and even though we are a Christian school some of the girls are so into fashion that they have forgotten about God. I would like to give this article from your blog to my wife so that she may read it to her girls. Would that be okay?

Absolutely! Feel free to use any of them. I really do believe that the things I write come from God because I'm just not that inspired on any other subject. I don't for a moment think that He would give me a gift and not want it used for His purposes. So by all means, let her use whatever she thinks will help.

Hello bungirl. There is a local celebrity here who admitted to being obsessed going under the knife. I don't think there is anything left on her face and body that was not dissected nor poked. She bravely showed her picture of what she looked like before. I thought to myself she didn't need to do so much restoration on her face and body. Her American boyfriend was even astounded when he saw the picture. She even mentioned that she will continue to go to surgery to enhance her features more. I think this kind of people has a lot of insecurities and serious low self-esteem. they are never content to be what they look like. Although, I respect whatever they like to do and refused to judge them. I am perfectly fine with my appearance. Our physical features is superficial only. I rather to go deeper and look what's inside the heart and the mind.

I'm completely with you. I don't even wear makeup much except for special occasions. I figure if people don't like the way I look, tough. That's the way God made me. I also think there are more productive ways to spend my time than devoting hours every day to hair, makeup, etc.

I don't know how you call it. Too much vanity or is it considered a gluttony. Technology nowadays can do a lot. Even changing the appearance of a person.

I agree. God made us different for a reason. The world would be a very boring place if we all looked alike.

This post is truly a blessing. It took me years to realize that God was very purposeful in creating us. Nothing about us is an accident or an oops. God made each and every one of us exactly how he wanted us to be and he fashioned us for his glory. This is my favorite chapter in the Bible, because it made me realize that I am pleasing to God in appearance and as long as God is pleased, I could care less what anyone else thinks. So many people miss it, by obsessing with their appearance. I saw a lady just yesterday who looked frightening. You could tell that she had a lot of money and she had used way to much of it on face lifts. Her skin had been pulled back so many times that it looked plastic. Like some horrible halloween mask. I didn't mean to stare, but I had never seen anything like that up close. This lady was very old. One could tell by the wrinkles in her neck. But she just could not accept what was happening to her. Actually, it is very sad, to look in the mirror and not be happy with what you see.
