My optical mouse gives erratic cursor movement. Sometimes it suddenly jumps to a different location on the computer screen or move very slowly or even worse it does not work at all. I am frustrated for it. Please help if you can.

santuccie and dirtbag gave you all the answers Ronimas. I hope your mouse will work on a different pad and that you will not need to invest into another one. In the meantime, you can use windows shortcuts when your mouse doesn't respond. This problem happened to me few years ago when I was using a mouse with a ball. So I understand how it is frustrating when your mouse doesn't go where you want! Good luck and I hope you will resolve the problem soon.

There are a lot of things you might need to consider.. first thing is the surface where you placed it on. You might need to test your mouse on a mouse pad. It case the issue persists, you might need to check your mouse on a different computer; if it works then you might need to uninstall and reinstall your usb drivers on the other computer. If it still has the same issue then I bet you need to buy a new one.

Is this your first time using this mouse, or was it working just fine before? If you just got it, I suggest you also get a mousepad with grid fabric. Different optical mice react differently to different surfaces, but fabric with an easy to follow grid pattern almost always works. If this mouse was working for you in the past with no problems, I suggest you shut down your machine, disconnect the mouse, reconnect the mouse, and reboot. If it doesn't work, get a new mouse. Hope this helps! -santuccie P.S.: Laughing at dumb jokes is still good for your health!!!
