Another Shooting Across the Street

Yesterday, about 3:30 in the afternoon, we had another shooting just across the street. This time it's someone I know. There is a family that lives across the street from me with a teenage boy (probably 15 or 16). Yesterday, some crazy person drove up and parked in their driveway and shot the boy and ran off leaving the Jeep SUV behind. Since there were no license plates on the car, my guess is that it was stolen. I think the boy is okay because he was sitting up and talking when they put him in the ambulance. He's heavy set and the fat on him may have saved his life. The curious thing about this shooting is that I never heard a gunshot and neither did a lot of people. That makes me wonder if a silencer was used since it was the middle of the day. That's an unusual thing for gang members but I guess it's not unheard of. I think it was pretty bold for the guy to do it in broad daylight. The mother of the boy who was shot collapsed in hysterics and they had to help her back to her apartment. Several people thought they were going to have to take her to the hospital as well. I was surprised that neither of the boy's parents went with him to the hospital in the ambulance. The boy had to have been scared out of his wits and I know that I would never have let my child go to the hospital without me by his/her side. I know his mother was too distraught and maybe the father had to stay to care for her briefly. I saw his dad standing out in front of their building last evening but it was late and I wasn't going to dress to go ask him about the boy at that time of night. I'll try to check with him today so I can find out about both the boy and his mom. I'll let you know more when I do.

Wow! Right across the street? That's way too close for comfort. How incredibly scary. I hope the boy is alright. I wouldn't have been able to let my boy go to the hospital without me going with him. They might have had to strap me in the ambulance right next to him, but one way or another I would've been there. I hope the mom is ok too. Please do keep us posted on anything you find out.

I wouldn't want to stay there either. Just make sure to be careful when you go out your door hon.

And so many think that here in NY is violent----I'd want to move away too if I'd lived in a neighborhood like that...I do in all honesty hope everyone is all right though...the son, the mother and father of course...the thing that is lurking in my mind though --I mean was this a random thing you think? Just some crazed nutcase shooting the son randomly or was it a gang related thing...for some reason I would think it would be the later since, yes there are crazies out there, but most people just don't shoot so randomly like that. Keep us posted if you find out anything

I dont' believe it was random though I also don't think the boy who was shot is a member of a gang. We just have a lot of gang activity around here and most of the families in the neighborhood know people in the gangs because they live in the neighborhood. The boy may have been shot for refusing to be in the gang. It happens.

Wow...where is it that you live? I've lived in East Dallas and Detroit and have never seen a shooting. Not that I'd want to or anything LOL Everyone always said those were the two worst places to live but I never had any trouble in either place although my Mom was mugged once in Detroit. Other than that it is just like living anywhere else I guess. I can't imagine sending your kid off with no one with them either. Of course, I also can't imagine my kid knowing ppl that would come up in broad daylight and shoot them. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

This is one crazy world that we live in and a person's life is not worth five cents. I wonder what the motive was behind the shooting? Whatever happened to talking to solve a problem?
