What to do with a sax that got wet?

My son's marching band played in a parade yesterday. And, it started pouring down rain. I have no idea how the school is going to deal with all the soaked uniforms. But, my son's saxaphone got soaked too. They are out of town right now, so I haven't seen it, but he said it was going to need all new pads. Have you ever had anything like this happen? Is there anything that can be done so it doesn't get damaged more?

When I was in the marching band in high school many, many moons ago we used to wrap our hands in garbage bags not to get our instruments WET, best thing to tell him is to let it dry out, nothing you can do now, the damage is already done, replacing pads is not a big deal, just make sure it is completely dried out.

That's good to know, I had no idea what replacing the pads would involve. Thanks.

It is not uncommon to replace the pads every few years, I used to play flute and the years that I played it I had the pads replaced and not due to weather but due to being used so much. You might call ahead and get an estimate, but I don't believe it is that expensive to do. Good luck. You might tell your son, it could be worse, you could have had to wear a trash bag on her hands to play your instrument, instead the band director was nice to not make them do this.

I don't know any solutions for a wet sax but I am very sorry that that has happened. Those instruments don't come cheap. I hope the uniforms turn out ok. The dry cleaners will be busy when they get home, won't they?

Yes, at least the uniforms belong to the school. So they will have to take care of that part.

Get a hairdryer and dry the pads. Ask your son to play it, and if it doesn't saound as good as normal, you may need to replace the pads.
