Baby-killing girl may avoid jail time A teenage girl who killed her baby after giving birth at home may be able to avoid jail time as she has received a suspended sentence from the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court. She was sentenced to "three years in prison with three years' suspension", meaning she may be able to stay out of prison if she exhibits good behaviour during the three year probation period. The middle-school student did not realize she was going to have a baby until seven months into her pregnancy. She did not tell her parents, fearing they would be angry. After giving birth to a boy baby in the bathroom at home last July 18, she put the child into a plastic bag and threw him out of a window. The girl was prosecuted for murder. But the judge decided to mitigate her punishment, believing the usually well-behaved teenager had committed the crime out of ignorance. Her parents, fruit vendors who had no idea about their daughter's pregnancy beforehand, were admonished in court for neglect, reports Guangzhou Daily.

Sad tale of this kind are all over the world..be it China, US, Europe...But at least in the developed nations there are helplines, counsellors aplenty for the underpriveleged. Are there any in China...if not it really need to setup help centers for these teens..?
