Handy(wo)man I Am Not

I have discovered that I am not very good at home repairs that are anything beyond the basics. My hubby has been working long hours and has been out of town a bit, so I have been trying to hold the fort together and get our rental ready to rent again. I have decided that my old job which was doing repairs and maintenance in different paper/pulp mills to be far easier. I even would rather work on my vehicles than home repairs. Anyone else feel this way too?

I love home repairs! LOVE THEM! I teach myself everything. My dad also helps me when I get truly stuck on a project. He and I work quite well together. I just love to learn to do things for myself.

Want to come over and do mine? lolol My dad taught me how to fit pipe, (which believe me that is not the same as plumbing ugh) he also taught me how to weld and how to millwright, but he forgot about the home repair thing

yes, I am good at certain things, changing light bulbs, putting together things that have instructions, etc (LOL) But when it comes to home repairs, I am not so good at it. Do not be afraid to ask for outside help, maybe a neighbor who is good at it or a handy man(or woman)=) Good luck Hope things work out!

Well, my partner is a builder/ joiner and he says that he thinks ordinary people should leave well alone as their attempts to do a job result in more work (and money) for him lol. He did a call out to a house regarding a stuck lock and found an impressive array of bent forks, spoons a trowel, a hammer with the head broken off and a considerable dent in the door frame and a few other items all damaged. My patner took out a small tool, slid it into place and "cick" open sesame. The man's wife nearly killed him on the spot, the look she gave him, then she gave my partner a big hug and kiss, which just about finished off her husband's humour with the door lol. I think if you are fit you can do a few things yourself but the golden rule is that your time is also worth money and it may be cheaper in the long run to get someone to do the job. Little tip, check there is no call out fee and that there is just a fee for the time that is spent there. Some firms charge a huge amount of money just to show up.

Your other half is right. The problem is having the money to have someone come and do it for me. Most companies here don't charge anymore to come out and do an estimate. Between researching online, our home improvement store and do it yourself books. I am starting to get the hang of it. lolol Well sorta

Home repairs and improvements can be a pain at times but hubby and I still love doing them. Especially when we tackle a whole room. Strip it down to studs and put new everything in. We remodeled the master bedroom, bathroom, and hallway in a mobile we used to live in and enjoyed doing it. We learned as we went. The nice folks at Menards and Lowes were a big help with advice whenever we got stuck. We also do some of our own car repairs and outdoor power equipment repairs.

Vehicle repairs are far easier, for me anyway. Lowes is very helpful most of the time. We don't have a Menards and I refuse to do business with the Home Depot here

I would far rather sort out a group of drunk angry men who want to fight than do most home repairs and I am better at that! lol I hope that you haven't been working too hard! xxx

Trying to work hard but I think I have been doing a lot of cussing more than anything else. As for the angry drunk men the last time I did that it hurt the next day and hubby didn't look so good either How are you and how is everything going there?

I would rather get between a mother bear and her cubs than do home repairs.

Yeah! well you have not been doing it for the last 5 years straight. My wife has made me help her take a single wide 1100 sq foot mobile home to a 2200 square foot HGTV hill billy palace.

Hubby works a lot so he doesn't have much time sometimes. I'm slowly making my way through it though As for decorating I am one of those people who paints everything white, hangs up a bunch of pictures and has a lot of nicknacks. Except for my girls' rooms, one is bright pink and the other is purple

I'm not too good at home improvement/ repair type things. For example, I tried to make a fish pond with cement and fancy stones. Lets just say that it's now a flower bed!I guess we all have things that we are good at and some that we aren't so hot at. Perhaps it depends on our enthusiasm and interest.

Now see for me it would have turned into a weed or dirt bed. I don't have much of a green thumb either. I have decided vehicle repair is far easier lol

My wife and I used to be caretakers for a few different places. So I was kind of handy in this area. But now that I own a home I have forgotten all about minor home repairs. So I'm the one that calls friends and or family to help out when I can't do it. Welcome to the non fix-it world huh? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I wish I could be in the non fix-it world, but I would lose my renters if I did that. And I am to scared to ask my family or friends I have seen some of their handy work

Well I dont mind doing home repairs and I always get big ideas that hit me liek putting in a deck and slidding door into our utility room. My hardest part is bringing it to completion. My wife has completed a few things that I have started. There are still alot of things I can think of that I need to finish. I gave up some of my internet time (I am an admitted addict) to finish up some of those things as soon as it got warm out but I still have alot of projects I need to wrap up.

Yep that's me. He starts it and I finish it. Or it breaks while he is gone and I have to figure out how to fix it. I have figured out if I stay away from my computer I get more done. (In other words shut it off when I'm done)
