My youngest daughter just received good news that she is being hired at Borders. I was so excited that she was hired, as she had been looking for a job for 6 months. What is the longest amount of time that you have been looking for a job? Did you begin to lose hope of finding a good paying job? She was beginning to think that she wouldn't be able to move out and now she will be able to move. I have always felt lucky, as a young women was never out of work. Now I'm older and run my own business and haven't been on a job interview in over 20 years. The only time I didn't get a job, I was a teenager.

I feel the same I have never been unemployed from a young teenager. I would hate to be applying for roles these days as the competition must be huge. I guess in this instance, fostering a good work ethic will be huge for your daughter. I would advise to always to work as if your next employer is watching you. This way she will move up ladders quick and never be umemployed as long as she wants. Good Luck to her!!!!

Thank you for the reply. I agree a lot of people applied for the job that she was seeking and all of her references were called. The last time I had a job interview I didn't even need references and was hired the same day I applied for the position.

That is great. I think Borders would be a good place to work.I never had trouble finding a job, I went to school and got my RT and passed my boards.

Thanks for the reply. This will help her pay for college, as my husband and I have been paying the bills. We told her she had to have a part time job, as she would appreciate her degree more this way. She plans to teach Elementary School when she finishes college.

For some bizarre reason, I have never had difficulties getting a job. In fact, in many cases, people called me to offer me a job. I guess my networking skills are pretty good, lol. Now I work as a freelance writer and have the same luck (knock on wood), with more job offers coming in each day. I just got hired on as a regular writer at a company that I have been writing for occasionally, plus I have several other regular assignments that keep me going pretty nicely. Especially right now, with a newborn and a toddler, I just donĀ“t have much time to write, but I hate to turn down work!

That is a wonderful thing that your daughter has found a good job. I am very happy for her. I was unemployed for 3 months, and i must say that it was wonderful. LOl. From the moment i can remember myself i worked, and i did not ever get a real long vacation like i really wanted. So it was a nice thing not having a job for 3 months, but after those three months i got a bit worried, so i just started a new one. :)

congratulations to your daughter, she will love working there I am sure... does she get a decent discount on purchases? My husband had a most difficult time getting hired after he retired from the Air Force, and then when he got a job he soon lost it :( not due to his own faults. one job he lost because he passed out at home and then could not walk (he had previously been injured at work) so my son and I (9 mos pregnant) carried him to the car and I took him to the military hospital. I was military dependent my entire life and that is all I knew to do...well since he did not go to the works doctor (2 hour drive for us!) he was fired. next place was a doctor's office that the doctor decided to close his practice and go work for the state. etc etc. I felt so bad for him because he has excellent work ethics and is a hard worker - he would commute 70 miles each way for a low paying job because nothing was available in our community... and he would always be an easy target for some reason. maybe because he is so easy going.

Thank you for the reply. She will get discounts for working there, so this really is great. I was going to renew my Barnes & Noble Membership, but not any more. This will save me a lot of money, as she can pick up some books for me.
