I have used free AVG with my P.C at home for months, it need be updated for a week. It works best with trojant. I also downloaded the SuperAntispyware and Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal. They are connection to the AVG.

I use a lot of freeware and open source software, so it's tough to choose. For security, I use Sunbelt Personal Firewall Free (formerly Kerio), AOL ActiveVirusShield (powered by Kaspersky), LinkScanner (to tell me if a page is safe), McAfee SiteAdvisor (to tell me if a page is legitimate), and Arovax Shield (to block changes to browser and system settings). I also enabled advanced file securities using the hidden function in Safe Mode. My machine is setup with four limited user accounts and one password-protected, main account. Only the main account has write access to system folders. I also use Thunderbird Portable for my e-mail, Portable Skype for VoIP/IM, Opera Portable Personal for my main browser, Free Internet Eraser, CCleaner, Advanced Windows Care...the list goes on and on. If I had to choose, it would probably be Opera Portable Personal. It's the most secure of all browsers, and the fastest along with K-Meleon. I have almost a hundred logins stored in the wand, and almost as many bookmarks, and the browser is set to automatically incinerate private data upon closing.

I use AVG for all my anti virus, and spybot is the only spyware remover I trust. (A lot of them install their own spyware when they load) Then there's the GIMP, of course, which for those of you who don't know is an image editor that can rival photoshop, but is free. Colorpic: A small utility for getting the hex codes for any color on the screen. Window Blinds: If you don't mind a pop-up window on boot up it's free, and it can skin windows XP for nice new looks. SmartFTP: An awesome ftp program, with any feature you could ask for. Edit Plus: An html editor for windows. It does a decent job giving you syntax highlighting et cetera. It says its only free for 30 days, but I'm on day 342 of my 30 day trial, and it still works.

Well, I never have searched for anything like that before. I guess I am not a fan of that and that is why I did not go there.
