I am a true believer of taking a first aid course and from the sounds of this, you should take one too.....it teaches you what you need to know in case of an emergency, including how to take care of yourself in one, including choking,,

I know,I have been there and that's what got me into taking the course.....it's a week out of your life, every two -three years, depending on where you live, but in the end it's well worth it

Thank goodness your hubby was around because they can be so slow to come to you when you call 911 . My best friend was telling me how outside her house there was an accident yesterday , it was a guy on a motorbike going to fast around a turn and he was thrown off the bike and the bike landed in a yard with five children . Luckily none of them were hit with it but the guy on the bike was hurt pretty bad . It took twenty minutes for the ambulance to show up and fiftenn minutes for the cops to show up . The guy on the bike had some broken bones but all in all he is going to be alright after a stay in the hospital but it could have been a whole lot worse and yet had it been worse they would not have made it any faster as they didn't know at the time how bad it was as it did look bad . We should all know how to do the heimlich maneuver because you never know when you might have to use it on family or friends or even a stranger . I don't know how to do this but wish I knew how to do it as it is always useful to have .

Wow I bet that was a pretty scary moment for you. I've always been afraid on what to do if I'm home alone and something were to happen like that or if someone broke into the house.

it was scary, not only have i never started choking b 4 but i've never seen someone choke b 4, so when i started too, i said in a weird voice, "babe, i'm choking please help me" i didn't know how to react, but i was calm. it was weird not being able to swallow! i know wut u mean, i wouldn't know wut to do either, if i'm alone!

Ahhhh. choking, can be scary and even deadly. But you can do the heimlich to yourself. You do it in the same fashion as you would to another person. Put you fists together below you ribs, be careful not to hit the xyphoid process, the little notch where the ribs meet. And then you want to do thrusts until the object comes out. Or you can lean over a chair and forcefully put repeated pressure to pop the little bugger out.
