Is anyone else as annoyed and disappointed about the series finale of The Sopranos. I mean, what was that??? I haven't seen a more lame series finale since Seinfeld. Are we to just assume that the guy in the bathroom came out and killed the whole family? Or that he just killed Tony? Or that the guy in the bathroom was just a guy in the bathroom and the family goes on to eat meatloaf like nothing? And AJ ends the series the same schmuck he's been since the start? After 7 years of therapy and really poignant, interesting interactions, the doc doesn't even make an appearance in the final episode? Lame, lame, lame. If I have to write my own ending, then I should get a writer's paycheck. Ugh.

I think that the finale was an example of what creator David Chase found himself doing a lot in the abbreviated season 6: trying to fill the season and the episodes with too much suspense without enough resolution. I will say that it seems that Chase wanted to put the "cloud" of doubt towards the entire episode, the hanging on the edge of our seats. In the end, I think he succeeded in one aspect: the realization of the constant paranoia that comes with the position and character of Tony Soprano. I would like to have seen some more resolutions (i.e. Dr. Melfi) but I think that it was an ending to leave us wondering or filling in the blanks. Everyone will leave this episode with a theory, and it means that the producers/directors/writers don't have to come up with their own ending. Lazy, perhaps a bit, but I think it plays to the curiosity of the show and its concept a bit.
