In Davenport, Iowa 31 year old Marcy Gant tried to trade her 4 year old son as partial payment for her wedding dress. Apparently she had put money down on her wedding dress but wasn't able to come up with the rest of the money so she offered the vendor her 4 year old son as collateral instead on at least two different occasions. Authorities have since removed the child from her custody. What mother in her right mind would offer their child as collateral for a lousy wedding dress?

Wow. It's amazing sometimes of how demented one person can be. Did she even get convicted of anything? I hope she did because she totally deserves it. Imagine how traumatic that is for the child to be actually be considered as dispensable & be exchanged for a wedding dress!Poor child but lucky for him that he learned early on how bad his mother is. Sure do hope as well that the wedding is off--that guy she was supposed to marry sure got it wrong!

just 10 years? Well, maybe that would be enough time to mull over what she's done...I just pray for the son that he can turn this into a positive thing & use this to be a better person & be a great parent in the future. How I pray that this doesn't affect him negatively, for his sake. God bless that child.

I know that she was charged with something but I can't remember what the charge was. I know that the last time I heard a report on the case they said she was facing ten years in prison. I can only imagine the emotional damage that this poor child will face when he is older if anyone ever tells him about this.

KissThis, my friend....what an ironic questions...because of course, NO "mother" in her right mind would offer their child as collateral for a lousy wedding dress.... This is truly a sad story...I can not comprehend a personwho values their child so little...and I hope that this poor child finds happiness somewhere out of the reachof this woman....I have no sympathy for her at all...she does not deserve to be a mother!!

I totally agree with you. I am hoping that the courts throw the book at her. Send her to prison for ten years so that the child can get a real loving mother instead.

OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! thats just sick and twisted as far as I'm concerned and I hope she doesnt get that child back but rather he be placed in a safe, loving home...Ppl like that make me want to smack the sick and stupid right out of them!!!

I thought for sure that I heard wrong that morning while I was listening to the news . About an hour later they told the same story again. I was truly shocked. I can't believe that a mother thought a stupid wedding dress was worth her child.

You hear about things like this every now and then and it makes you wonder what is wrong with people like this. I don't understand how anyone can even think about doing something like this with their child, does she really not love him that much? I am glad that he was taken away and I hope he will go to someone that will love and care for him like he deserves. It is so sad what some people will do to get money.

This is a sad, but very unfortunate reality in life. I work for as a 911 dispatcher, and you would not believe half the things I have heard regarding kids. Some people just don't care. There have been mother's that have killed their children because a new boyfriend didn't want kids. There are the sick mom's that deliberately make their child sick to gain attention. There are so many people out there that really don't deserve to have children at all.

I use to be a foster parent so I have heard a lot of these kinds of stories in the courtroom. Each time it would make me sick. I had to get away from foster care because I would get so upset hearing all the stories.

This is a rare find dear.I must say.a mother giving away her child for a wedding dress.A wedding dress is more imporatnt to her than her own child.It i really difficult to believe that such people do exist in the world who values materialistic pleasures over the relationships.I must say that what values she will put in her child's mind.

I remember reaadin about this story. She also had a ten year old son as well. Did they ever decide what her punishment should be? I remember the story saying that she could get up to ten years in prison. Can you imagine how the child will feel when he is old enough to understand why he isn't with his mother anymore? That poor child.
