Are the old wives tale about babies carried high being girls, and low boys true?

My daughter-in-law is expecting her first child anytime now. I've been hearing the old wives tales about where the baby is carried determines if it is a boy or a girl and when I went to one site it said it is an old wives tale but added, "who knows if boys preferred to be carried low and girls preferred to be carried high?" With that sentence, does that not mean that this is a true wives tale or has there been any instance in which it was not so?

yeah ive head this before.. with my daughter i was VERY high.. same with my friend when she was pregnant with her daughter.. now my friend is pregnant and the ultrasound confirmed it was a boy, and shes carrying low. you have to also not look at the stomach after the baby has "dropped" cause then you will always thinks its a boy! lol i have also hear that if you look at a pregnant woman from the back and they are wide that its a boy, but if you look at a woman who's carrying a girl, you wouldn't be able to tell she was pregnant.

I did not know about the back part. My daughter-in-law is petite, but she is not that small boned.

I have also heard this old wives tale, don't know how much truth is there in it. There are a few other such beliefs also. - The more active a baby is in teh mon's womb, chances are more of getting a girl - If the ultrasound shows the babie's hands are riased, it si girl, otherwise boy etc..

There are a lot of old wives tales to determine whether the baby is a boy or a girl, but that's all they are...tales. For some women they may seem true but there is really no reason for any of them to work out for everyone. I've also heard the exact opposite of what you heard, that boys carry high and girls carry low. I carried pretty much they same with all of mine...a big round ball out in front. I have 2 girls and 4 boys.

I live in Canada and that is what we used to hear. There are other wives tales I read about that I did not know until I looked it up on the internet.

I carried close and out to the sides more with my son. With my daughter I was allllll out front. So I guess it seems that the wives tale is wrong with everyone I know. Boy carry higher and girls carry lower. It is fun to guess.

It all depends I guess. My daughter-in-law was high up and in front, not the side. and her aunt told her it was going to be a call because of that reason, so I gather it must be how they figured it out in their family.

No. I carried by daughter very low throughout my entire pregnancy.

I dont know, with my son I carried out and with my daughter I carried up, But the were both low, as they were both lodged in my pelvis at about 7 months, So, who knows, I think this is more based on a theory someone came up with based on what they saw, but I am sure that some have experienced different things =)

My daughter-in-law carried high and she just gave birth to a girl. So I guess that old wives tale has some basis in fact.

I don't think they are ever really true, if you carry high & do end up with a girl, i think it's more of a fluke. All the wives tales i read, told me we were having a boy - carrying low, preferring savoury to sweet foods, no morning sickness & so on but we had a girl. The only one that rang true for us (which was probably just a fluke) was if you add the month you conceived in with the age you were when you conceived - if the number is odd, it's a boy, if it's even it's a girl. Eg :- We conceived in August (8th month) & i was 24 so 8+24=32 - even number so it should be a girl & it was! As i said though, babies kinda sit wherever they're comfortable so most of the tales are just stories that may come true for some but wont for others! You're better off not really listening to them!
