***How Do You Personally Approach Discussion Creation on Mylot?***

I don’t spend much time on Mylot anymore, and am generally here to check out what my friends are discussing and saying. Occasionally, I will stop on and navigate ‘Today’s Top Discussions”, “Recent Discussions”, or “Today’s Hot Topics”. What I have been finding is that there are many on Mylot that are clueless to what the words ‘discussion’ really means and entails. I’m sure most of you will understand what I am talking about. I am starting to see a return to the old Mylot days, where there were more threads of one-line questions. These one-line questions, more often then not, are pointless and specifically posted so that the said member can post a quantity of these meaningless questions. These members do not even take the time to at least answer their own question in the discussion they are creating, and many times they do not return to respond to members that have given a response. Again, this makes the whole point of creating that discussion—pointless. I think it is time that members learn what constitutes a quality discussion. You see thread after thread of members complaining about how they can boost their earnings, well it’s not with the one-line questions you toss out to us. So, what is a discussion? I mean really, the whole premise and beginning foundation of Mylot was to bring people together (internationally) to create meaningful quality discussions—am I right? I’d like to know from everyone what they think constitutes a quality discussion, and how do you go about creating your discussions? Do you do a little research, do you stem off of something you heard, do you copy and paste something you find online and call it good? To me, a discussion is a form of communication, where people exchange knowledge, opinions and views, and most importantly the flow of that communication must be reciprocal in nature. In other words, I cannot just offer up some question without letting other readers know my take and view or relevant knowledge with respect to that question. If we all approach discussion creation with that in mind, it would definitely help Mylot become a quality forum, which stays true to the idea of a discussion community. When I create a discussion, I usually stem off something I’ve seen, read or heard about, or I use personal knowledge from my own life experiences to draw my inspiration. When I give a response, I will only respond to a discussion I have some background knowledge in or an interest in. If not, then we have what we see quite often on Mylot: “firefox or Internet Explorer”, “Do you like ice cream after dinner”, “Do you believe in UFOs”, etc… It also is good to remind everyone that many one-liner questions do indeed fall under a Mylot rule breaker—we are not supposed to create meaningless discussions, or poll and survey like discussions. Maybe if we all refrain from responding to these types of questions, those members will catch a clue.

When I post a discussion I do my best to write it so that most anyone can respond in some way or another without struggling too much. I don't post a lot of discussions but am happy with mostly responding to my friend's discussions. I very rarely respond to discussions that I don't feel are 'quality' discussions though.

byfaithonly, That's pretty much my approach to writing and creating discussions. Sometimes if the discussion is an intense and real thought provoking, my responses may and can tend to be just as intense and deep. I find that if the discussion is well thought out and delivered, there will actually be back and forth conversation between members, and I believe that is what Mylot really expected to happen by creating a forum such as this. Like you, I no longer create alot of discussions, but still enjoy responding to all my friends.

I agree, I think that mylot does want the 'conversations' not simply post, respond, collect money. There have been a few times that different friends and I have gotten very involved in back and forth banter and then all of a sudden one of us will add - what's the topic of this discussion or something to that effect. In the process of bantering we've gotten way off topic. At one time I was putting a lot of thought and effort into any discussion - even the 'what kind of ice cream do you like' ones. I'm a writer and it was a way for me to work on my creativity while staying on topic. I then realized though I was putting way too much effert in those and not getting a return because down the road the discussion would be deleted and my earns adjusted for that.

byfaithonly, When I first started out on Mylot, I used it as a means to practice my writing and even kick start an inspiration for a future article. I was like you, putting in my deep perspectives even too those simple and almost nonsense questions. But then, I saw that Mylot didn't want those types of discussions and were deleting them; so, I wasn't going to waste my time engaging those discussions. I've always approached Mylot as if it was my coffee break from the larger writing projects I work on. Happy Writing!!

Great post!! I fully agree with you. However the solution will never come to be. Just as the posters of these one line posts are going for quantity, so are their responders. On the norm a short question only takes a short answer. So why many of us will avoid such things in hopes it will go away, many other posters will find them appealing. I, yes go ahead a call me a rat, report them instead. I let mylot make the call on it. I think since they made the rule, they should be the ones to enforce it.
