An idea for mylot

I recently came accross an addon to a website that collects popular words and makes tags for the website, first of all that might make it easier to sort messages instead of letting the users decide what are the tags. But the more interesting part is the you could actually let people know what are the "hot topics" here at mylot with the most popular tags, perhaps it's been done before.. what do you think?
