Garbage Cans

We all know how gross they can be, especially the ones on the outside of the house where you put your trash to wait for collection day. It is especially bad in the summer time when the sun is beating down on it and baking the nastiness. Do you ever clean out those cans? If you do how often to do? How do you clean them?

wheelie-bin. a standard waste receptacle for Uk ho - wheelie-bin. a standard waste receptacle for Uk households.
In the UK now, we have wheelie bins. (See pic) They can get unbelievably stinky during the summer (even with our cold weather!!) when that horrible gunk sticks to the bottom. Because of the size of them (between waist and chest high to most people) they are very awkward to clean - you would have to lie it down and crawl inside to clean it by hand. Most people neglect it (I currently do!) but it's simple enough to use a pressure washer (mind the back-wash!) or there are plenty of people who come around and clean it for you for a couple of ££s

This is basically the same look our's have. To clean them is a huge pain, and yes I have had the back-spash hit me full body.. so gross! I have not cleaned mine out for about a year now since that lol. Maybe I should look for a neighborhood kid that needs a quick $5 and let them deal with it lol. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for BR! You must have nice (read: gullible) kids there. Any kid old enough to do the job around here would tell me to stick that $5 (£2.50) where the sun don't shine!! lol If you surf around I'm sure there will be a professional company in your area. They come around with a portable pressure washer in their van/truck and must be trained or practiced with regard to 'back splash'! That way you can avoid the back-LASH of neighbours whose children have come home stinking to high heaven with a bag full of candy! lol

yes they smell terribly in the summer. I usually put the garbage in big sacks and tie the neckband very tight to prevent the smell to come out. In this way it's easy to clean out the cans with water . I clean them every week.

I have tried to make sure the bags are tied tightly but for some reason it doesn't seem to work. I ahven't been cleaning mine out because about a year ago I had a back-splash of nastiness hit me full body.. it was so gross!
