I love creative writing because it allows me to embrace a side of myself which is often neglected. However, technical writing allows me to "write smart" and it does better paying the bills. :-)

I like creative writing the best. I have this extremely weird imagination and it would not be feasible for me to write "you must oil the machine properly or the gears will detach, whirl around and slash you to pieces." I also find it is easier for me to tell a story rather than give just facts. By technical writing do you just mean writing books on operation of machinery, or do you mean article writing in general? Because in true technical writer, you need expertise in the field, long years of university education, and I do not have that. Besides I love to write fiction, and also when I write articles from my own perspective and not just write how to do stuff.

But in technical writing, you also do creative writing, not just research, but in different way. I mean, in writing, whether it'd be technical or creative, one must have the talent. ^_^

I prefer Technical if I have to write it, but creative if I have to read it :-)

I do not know which i like the best, but i am more exposed to technical writing since that was what i mainly do in my 2 previous jobs connected with research and academe. We made environmental scientific research studies which were published in international journals.
The only creative writings i did were those submitted in our high school english class, i think.
