Ken Griffey Jr.

I have written to the Seattle Times and the Mariners and I have yet to get an answer to my question,WHY IS KENNY GETTING A HEROES WELCOME AFTER HE CALLED ALL SEATTLE FANS PSYCHO'S BEFORE HE LEFT SEATTLE? He never apologized,I'm not imagining this,my daughter remembers him saying that too. Yet Alex is still booed everytime his team plays at Safeco, the owners wouldn't even talk to him so he took Texas' offer, their owner wanted him,the Mariners obviously didn't. I'm really upset about this, what is your take on this?

I think you may have to let it go. When Griffey left Seattle, he was immature and a little too cocky for his own good. Since then, he has been humbled by age and a multitude of injuries. Seattle fans, for the most part, seem to remember the good times they had with Junior instead of the less than amicable breakup. While Griffey hasn't apologized for his comments, it has been nearly a decade and maybe it's time we all just forgive and forget. Besides, how can you hold a grudge against a guy who's on the verge of 600 homeruns without using steriods?

I might consider that, but that still doesn't excuse Mariner fans treatment of Alex Rodriguez. I use to be proud of Mariner fans, but no longer, they are no better then Yankee fans,I'm so disappointed.

Speaking of Alex again, why can't Mariner fans get over the size of his contract? Why can't they quit booing him everytime he is at bat, talking about letting things go. I am a Mariner fan,but I separate myself from that sort.

Consider this: While Alex always wants to be loved no matter where he is, Junior never seemed to care one way or the other if people liked him (at least while he was in Seattle). On the one hand here was a guy who desperately wanted his fan base to love him, got that love, and then left for a huge payday. Wouldn't Seattle fans have expected him to stay with the Mariners even if it meant settling for the home team discount? Griffey, on the other hand, was never really expected to stay in Seattle for his entire career. Seattle fans couldn't have been surprised when he left so they were more accepting of his departure than they were of ARod's.

Ken Griffey Jr has always been my favorite baseball player. I liked him when he was on the mariners, and after he left the mariners. As for A-Rod, there's a reason his nickname is Pay-Rod.

An interesting and touchy situation. I didn't really remember the whole Seattlites being psychos part, but that sounds more like something michael jackson would say, haha... I hope some time we get another baseball player like ken griffey. He was cool.

So it is okay to call Seattle fans psycho's? But if the Mariner owners couldn't be bothered to talk to him and the Rangers owners did he is booed everytime he comes to Safeco? All he wanted was a long term contract, they at first offered him one then renegged on it.He got the long term contract from the Rangers, which happened to be for a lot of money too.People can get over being called psycho's but not forgive a player for going where he is truly appreciated by the owners. Talking about getting over it and grow up.

How could you help but not Love Griffey and what he did for the Mariners? I feel this Celebration for him being back in Seattle was Well deserved. He is still an awesome Baseball player, and a one of a kind. Seattle will always recognize what he did for Baseball while being here, and he will always continue to be one of my favorites of all times, no matter who he plays for.

coming back to seattle is all the apology ken griffy jr. needs. the fans love him. he is one of the greatest players alive today and still playing. he done all of it without help from steroids. the hard feeling when he left is gone (get over it). Alex left for big money for texas then the yanks for glory while tacking steroids. to bad, he is a great player. Seattle is very happy to have Ken Griffy back.

People forget the past. All they remember is that he played well and was one of the best players to go through Seattle. I think that he should be commemorated for what he did, but people shouldn't forget that he was an jerk.
