Can you forgive yourself?

When you mess up really bad, are you able to forgive yourself easily? Or, do you have a hard time letting yourself off the hook?

I am pretty hard on myself about things. I know that I am supposed to be an intelligent person, at least as far as books and school is concerned, so it really eats me up when I realize how stupid I can be sometimes. I'm my worst critic and when I realize how ignorant I am about things sometimes, I just want to slap myself.

Nope, I can't forgive myself easily. I don't know why, even in little things that I could easily forgive about other people, it becomes hard to let go when it's about myself... How about you? Do you forgive yourself easily?
