Small Village or Big City?

I have often wondered where i would prefer to live...in a big city or in a village in the country. Both have advantages and disadvantages. The village brings more peace and calm, less stress and cleaner air to breathe. The big city has all available and close, there are more opportunities for working etc, and you always find new things there. Where would you prefer to live? in a big city or in a village in the country?

Oh it's hard to chose Light really, but i'll try giving my explanation here. Well as for me, I'm really a City girl and I love to go places where I could find myself having fun and just enjoy life. Where in a village in the country, yeah you are right it's more like we live a more peaceful life and we could breathe fresh air comparing to the City but just one thing as me growing up a City girl it's just really hard to adjust life living in a country where you could face a lot of challenges and changes one have to make once living in a country for good. But if given a chance though, I would love try it out and just see whether I can survive the challenge and pass the test being a country girl this time. :-)

I tell you that im none of the two...I'm a medium city boy. That is, not country but not a huge megalopolis either...a medium sized city is ideal for me. You have most of the things you got in a big city, but it's not as stressing...

I prefer the small village and the country. I love the country, the fresh air and the smell that is void of pollution. I also love the fresh food and the lower cost of living. People there also are much kinder, friendlier and less suspicious. There is always a feeling of family and oneness with ones neighbors.

I agree that country is more peaceful..but what you said about the people...really i don't think that should be taken as a regular basis...there are all kinds of people everywhere...

Living in a small village is alot more comfortable that living in the big city...that is if you do not have a daytime job just like I do. I have also decided to move into a small village so far away from the overcrowded city...the villagte is situated just beside huge mountains and the view is just fine although it still so very hot in the midday...but thats ok...once I moved in, I plan to buy a bike and a motorcyle to enable me to move-around and check the views from the mountain.

I am sure that the village you're talking about must be totally gorgeous. It's great if you like that slow paced type of life. So i'm happy that you have founded a place like that for yourself. Thanks for replying.

Well I am split on this one as both have their advantages and disadvantages! I live on the outskirts of a small city with both Glasgow and Edinburgh about 30-40 minutes away - and feel I have the best of most worlds! The only thing I would change is top move the coast nearer! lol xxx

he could be right! I haven't actually gone to Edinburgh for a few years - the option is there though! Stirling where I live is the best! The castle is better too! xxx

When I am in the UK I live in one of its biggest cities. I feel like it is closing in on me. I look out of the front window and see the back of a block of flats - look out the bedroom window and I see the front of another block of flats. When I think I grew up in this town and it was full of steel industries I find it hard to believe. In the USA I live on the edge of a very small town in Central Illinois. The air is fresh and clean - everyone knows everone else and I love it. My late husband used to drive 57 miles each way to work because he did not want his kids to grow up in a city like he did. My home sits on a 1/2 acre of land ( yes it all has to be mowed in the summer). We love the quiet a night. It is great.

I prefer my "village" outside the larger city. I have lived in both the country and the big city setting. In the big city I was having to deal with large groups of people living close to me. All the noise of traffic as it rushes down the street to get some where. I don't deal with these issues in my little town. Yea, there might be someone who just has to floor the gas pedal for some reason but they normally get caught at the end of the road. I like small town living because everyone knows your name and they know which children belongs to who so that everyone keeps a close eye on one another's children.

I think the outskirts of the city are the ideal place. You are close to everything, both country and the city....only problem is that those places are usually expensive to live at, at least here.

I would like to live in a small village. A small village best suits my personality. I am quite a reserved person and I don't want that much attention. I also want to be alone most of the time in a quiet place. The rush of a big city would be too much for me. Too much people would drive me nuts.

Hi...I would like to be in village...am a city girl...Am getting bored of city life with lots of noise pollution...I use to spend my time in village often..It is where I can forget all tensions...I am totally relaxed on seeing farmers working and their culture...how they spend their life in fields.I respect them...I am from a village family settled down in city..So I have grand ma and grand pa there in village...It is fantastic time when I am there..I enjoy even simple thing that happens there...I enjoy the trees, plants, house in old style, mud roads, mountains, cows, rivers, temple so and so...I love my village...even I plan to settle down in Village forever....:-)

I think different people have their own choices.someone like living in big city, there are full of opportunities and challenges, they can live in a modern and conveient life.but others prefer village, they hate the noise and pollution in the big city, they like the peaceful and clean life. To me,I also like countryside.

It is always a hot topic recentiy. For me,the ideal situation is to spend six months in city and another six in countryside.Am I too greedy? But for this moment,I have to live in a big city to realize my dream and to have a better living standard. If I am getting older,I would rather to live in a village cause it is better for one's health.

I stay in the city for most part of my life, the life is very hectic and I am rushing here rushing there almost every day. The traffic is terrible and you are always caught in it and spend about 2.5 hours on the road everyday to get to work and back. I missed the country life that I had experienced when I was studying overseas, the lifestyle was very difference. It was a regional center; all the important facilities are available.

well if you live in a developed country where the countryside has almost as many things available as in a city...but in poorer countries the difference is brutal.

Like what you said I prefer living in the village rather city cos in city it so polluted, traffic, noisy, and many dust, dirt when you start to go out in your house. But in village clean air, quite and you can have more peace of mind.

All that is true...but at the same time i would miss the thrill of the city...a village can be too calm for me i think LOL.

in my view it is better to live in a big city because there are lot of oppertunites in a big city for ur progress. but also there are lot of expenses in big cities as compared to the villages

I love village living for the very reason you state: "The village brings more peace and calm, less stress and cleaner air to breathe." While I like going into the city for cultural events or shopping for some things I can't always get here, I hate the noise, the dirt, the crowds and having to worry about crime or kids getting swept off in the crowds. Dublin on Grafton or Henry Street or any of the busier places can get really hectic and it's stressful trying to keep track of kids, parcels, etc. I can't imagine living there full time.
