I just read the honours list and Barbara Taylor Bradwick has been awarded the OBE. I thought everyone else who loves her books would like to know that at last she has been recognised in this way. Famous for her work, not her lifestyle, as is the case with many writers, she has written away and forged a name for herself so please join me in congratulating her.

Hello Sweets,I am not familiar with her work. What kind of writer is she?I might want to request her books from our library.I am not overly fond of fiction unless it has some true history in it.Thanks for the heads up.

I have read a number of her books and they seem to take a very poor young woman of exceptional quality and charter her hard work to overcome her circumstances. A Woman of Substance is a wonderful and inspiring book which I have read many times and the central character, Emma Harte grows from grinding poverty to a multi millionaire through hard work but at the cost of bonding with her children. The story is complete fiction but the areas of the country written about are areas Barbara Taylor Bradwick actually lived and the descriptions of the living and working conditions of the characters are historically correct. Have you tried any of the books yet?

Thought you would like to know that. It was very encouraging to me to learn that somebody who has worked hard and produced such lovely and inspirational books has had that achievement recognised. Hopefully it will inspire her to write even more wonderful tales :-)

Yup, I would like to know how Paula and Shane's children turned out as one of them was turning into a right little minx!
