I hadn't thought about it but this year is the first time for fireworks for my poor dog. Since she was born after 4th of July last year she has never been through the loud bangs. I could not figure out why yesterday she would run outside but before I could shut the door she was back inside. She kept doing that in and out and in and out. I was laughing at her thinking she had lost it. Finally when I found her shaking in a corner it hit me the fireworks were scaring her. This is my dog that isn't afraid of thunder so it never crossed my mind that she would be afraid of fireworks. The poor little thing is going to have a hard couple of weeks. Is your dog afraid of fireworks?

No, my dog doesn't fear fireworks. Everytime for firworks, he shouts aloudly as if he is going to blame them. But he never shows any fear. He is brave and ready to fight.

My little dog was born last September, and he is just experiencing fireworks for the first time also, and we have some obnoxious neighbors that keep shooting them off. They are driving all of us crazy and the poor little dog just quakes with fear, I have to hold him close to me and reassure him that everything is going to be ok. It sometimes takes him 2 hours to calm down after they are finished shooting off a ton of fireworks EVERY evening, since it has been legal to see and buy them, I cannot wait till the fourth of July is over for his sake and mine.

I don't have any pets but my grandparents had a dog that had a dog house outside and she dug herself a "basement" under the dog house. Whenever it would thunder or there was fireworks going off she would go down into her basement. We could never get her out until the next day or until the storm had stopped.

I have had two dogs that were afraid of loud noises. Currently I have a husky we adopted at Christmas. He can hear thunder before I can. I give him a pill I bought at the "Natural Food Store". He likes to be in tight quarters and I put a blanket over him. My Westie was the same way. The pill helps, just make sure your dog is in a comfortable secure place like a pet cage leave the dog open. My dog gets between my chair and the wall. He is 70 pounds and I have another Westie 14 lbs. and she looks at him like he is really weird. Just love and pat him or if you are going out it would be wise to get him a cage. good luck. Lowcountryjd

When there are fireworks, go outside with her, give her treats and play with her. My guys will go out, woof back once or twice then come in the house and go to sleep. Of course my older guy has gone to sleep while leaning on a table saw...when it is in use. He is a pretty lay back kind of dog.

I think you'll find all dogs are scared of fireworks - well, 99% of them anyway! The noises are high pitched & loud - dogs have very sensitive ears, that's why they recommend you keep your pets inside & feeling safe/comfortable while there is fireworks going on outside. Then they wont freak out. I thought that was something all people with dogs knew about, but yeah, if there's ever any fireworks on, it's a good idea to keep your pets inside with you while they're going on so they don't freak out!

You must realise that dogs can hear much better than human beings. They can pick up vibrations that we hardly can. Just check out his link and you will know why. htt://hypertextbook.com/facts/2003/TimCondon.shtml Just send me you feed back on this.

One of my dogs that we had while I was growing up was afraid of fireworks. She'd hide under a table and just generally carry on. Affected her appetite too.. We had to make sure we spent some time each year about this time reassuring her and making her feel a lil more at peace.
