Yes, those are all popular here as well. It is funny how they seem to be superstitions around the world. Also, another one is 'never walk behind or under a ladder.' I don't believe these supertitions to be true, but they are very popular.

You know how someone can set a ladder against a building, so they can climb onto the roof? Well, they say if you walk under that ladder that is being used, you will have bad luck. I don't believe it, but I don't think it is wise to walk under anything heavy, including a ladder. : )

Our country have a lot of superstetions here. If I go on to list them it will take a lot of time and space. What I find interesting is many of the superstitions prevailing in this country is popular in many other countries also. For example the one you mentioned do not sweep the floor at night, itching of your palms bring money etc. These are all baseless. But some has their own reasons. Let us examine the one do not sweep the floor in the night. We know that these superstetions formulated during ancient times when there was no electricity or proper night luminating facilities. If we sweep the floor in the dark there are chances to sweep away some valuables which we earlier dropped down. If we examin this way we can see that most of the supestetions have some reasons which are genuine.

I don't believe in luck. Only coincidences are there. If you win a lottery it will be a blessing from the God, not by luck. Thank you rockingmom for the comment.

maybe you are right, few centuries back, where light is uncommon then darkness is everywhere, they do not sweep cause maybe they can sweep away some valuable things on the floor!!, thanks...good, but now it says that when you sweep the floor at night you will not have good luck, so maybe the belief had evolved from valuable thing to lucks..!!
