Meta tags placement on blogger

I dont know if anyone can help me I did a search to see if my meta tags were working ok and it came up as they arent recognised on my blogs at blogspot.com. i added them after the title in the html but this doesnt look like the right place. do you know where to place the meta tag code as it would be very useful leave your blog link here and ill visit if you can tell me how to place the meta tag code in the html have you found your blog visitors increase with proper meta tags what else do you do to get your blog more popular
