I have a 2 year old son who's very fond of watching tv. I've started using television as a medium for stimulating his senses at 4 months. We watch educational and musical cartoons like nursery rhymes every night for at least an hour. I can see how this shows helped my son in his development. At 8 months my son dances to the music, at 10 months he knows many words and started to stand up. Before his 1st birthday he's already walking. At age 1, he started to like cartoon movies like finding nemo, spirit, monster inc and other walt disney cartoons. Now he spent most of his time watching tv. Most of the time he watches from 8am - 1pm. Then he sleeps for about 3 hrs and start watching again. He rarely plays outside the house. Sometimes the only time he gets to play outside is during our family day. My son is 2 1/2 y/o, should I be concerned?

Personally, I think that a child needs as much time if not more time outside then they need to watch television. As a parent its our job to make sure that our child is getting the proper amount of exercise and fresh air. If their inside watching television it is very likely to cause them to become fat and lazy. Our children's television time is limited to just an hour or two a day. They spending most of their time outside playing. If they weather is to hot, cold, or raining they will be inside playing boardgames or something. We try to discourage them from watching too much television.

I really wanted to lessen his tv hours so what I do is whenever I came home from work I spent time with him playing. I also bought him toys that would stimulate his creativity. But still he spent I think 4-5 hours watching tv everyday. Thanks for your response!
