If someone gave you 1 million dollars and said you had to use it to create a business and the business had to benefit others while bringing in money..what type of business would you create? What would you call it? I would open up an apartment complex that required only $100 a month rent and that every tenent be responsible for their own utilities..Those who rented would have to have a quarterly inspection to show they are keeping up the room they are renting.. What about you?

I would open up a soup kitchen, it's really the only thing I can think of that I would like to do that would help people although that doesnt really bring in any money. But I would like to do something like that. Help the hungry. I dont think there is enough help out there for people that really need it, and this would be one way I could help.

I would open up an orphanage in Africa, and make every resident that is capable of working do something to maintain the orphanage and bring in income for the orphanage, such as starting and maintaining an organic garden and selling the produce, producing clothes and crafts and selling them, and other things as well. This way the kids would learn how to work and lead productive lives, everyone would have enough to eat and clothes to wear, and the orphanage would be able to keep its doors open to help others.

I would create 50 $20,000 accounts to use in trading the financial markets. Using strict guidelines and a specialized trading plan, each person would be given the chance to double their account. When they have doubled their account size, they could then go off on their own and use their profits to start their own accounts or some other business. There would be rules about losing money and after a certain point, a trader would have to give up his account. I would teach them about trading and how to manage their accounts. This way, they could learn to trade profitably, learn some money management skills and possibly have some money to work with on their own.

littlefranciscan, my dream has been to own a hang out for teenages ran by teenages. It would sell food and have young teenage bands playing there. I guess the only way that there would be an income would be out of the food and drinks that were sold. But it would provide a service of keeping our youth off the street when hanging out. Plus give teenage bands a place to play. Id love more ideas but a million dollars would cover the set up easily I guess I just have to work on how to make an income out of it. thanks loved this post.

I'd open a Brothel. It would give relaxing moments to tired men, and make the ugly or socially inept able to taste beautiful women. And of course, it would certainly bring in lots of money.

I would build up a laboratory and hire experts in order to produce medicines that would be sold at prices just a little above their cost to poor people around the world.

I would open up an affordable child care center that's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All too often, people who work outside of the traditional Monday-Friday, nine-to-five have a hard time finding safe, dependable, affordable care for their children. As for a business name, I'll have to think about that.

I think that sounds like a very good idea that you mentioned about starting a low cost apartment complex so that people could have a place to live that can not afford the current apartments, which charge an arm and a leg. I think that I would probably do the same thing as you. You definitely would have to make sure they are taking care of the place otherwise that million dollars will go quickly.

Well that is where I would have quarterly inspections..As long as they are keeping up their apartments then they can continue to live there..but if there is a mess ..I will give a warning with a determined time to fix up what needs fixing..then I would re-evaluate them;)+

I would open a kabbutz (sp?). That would provide accomodation and work for those who require it while making a little money from produce and craft goods etc.

I'd start two. (with that amount of money) 1) A cheap webhosting company which didn't care about profit but "to" serves it's users. 2) I'd start a real life chain of cafe with computers. A large area for people to sit and chat with hot and cold food being served. (not near the pcs) tho ~joey

I would open a large animal shelter. That could help all the homeless animals. Also, it would serve as a low income grooming/veterinary clinic for those who can't afford animal care. I think so many animals end up homeless because people can't afford the health care needs and medical needs of their pets. I'm not sure what I would call it though.
