Pitbull Paranoia.

Do any of the other pitbull owners on here find that the recent wave of negative publicity that pitbulls have been getting on the media is making them paranoid of the possibility of phycho-pit-hateing-activists? I have. I am always worried now that someone would intentionally try to hurt my baby girl. I have found myself feeling that I need to walk right next to her when crossing the street, for fear someone in a car would try to hit her. I never let her off of her leash near roads, but even in fields I find myself worrying about another dog barking from an area that there is a road and her running to see it and someone hitting her or trying to shoot her. I don't ever leave my dog tied out, she is more of a sofa-dog than an outdoor-dog, but even when letting her out to pee I find myself worrying that someone may have thrown poisoned food into our shared yard in an attempt of her life (this actually happened to someone I know, thier dog alomost died and they never figured out what she ate, just that is wasn't anything that they kept inthier house). So what is wrong with the world? A couple of idiots train dogs badly and a couple more provoke some dogs and get bit and now all the wonderful cuddly pitbull and thier loving owners have to walk around in constant fear that someon might try to rip thier family apart because of the breed of one of it members? How the he11 is that fair? It makes me so mad, it's so bad and people are so prejudice that I had to have my vet record my dog as a boxer-mix instead of pitbull-mastiff because my vet was concerned that they would try to ban the babies here too. I would move away so frigging fast. So does anyone else here find themselves contsantly worrying about thier dogs?

I have a pitbull, and there have been a few times that I was out walking her and the cops stopped me to check her tags! They said they make sure that "dogs like that" have their shots up to date, and told me to make sure she always has her tags on. I though it was harrassment somewhat. I don't see them checking other dogs. And then there was a time I had her across the street from my house, and someone called the cops and said there were dogs fighting, when the only dog in sight was mine and she can't really fight with herself! We registered her as a pit when she got her shots, and somehow our home owners insurance found out, and our insurance went up! I don't understand why people have to follow stereotypes, but it really does make me mad.

That's retarded. I am going to be so disgusted if they make us pay extra home insurance because of my dog.

I have to admit that I do worry about my pitbull/lab mix dog often, thanks to the bad rep this breed has recieved from cruel owners. Sometimes people will look at my dog with admiration, but other times he will recieve glares followed by two people whispering to each other and staring. I live in Ontario, Canada, and they do not allow pit bull puppies anymore....all existing pit bulls are to be spayed/neutered. It's nice to see that there are some loving pit bull owners out there (you).

Thanks for your response. I think what Ontario is doing to the dogs is really wrong. I live in Nova Scotia and as far as I know we don't have breed regulation here, but as backup insurance I had my vet register my dog as boxer mixed with unknown breed on her vet files. I never fixed Roofie because I couldn't stand the idea of letting someone cut her. Also I used to serve this little old man at a coffee shop I worked at and he showed me a picture of a German Sheppard, and told me that she is 18 years old and still as active as a puppy and he believes whole heartedly that it is because he chose not to fix her. He believes, as do I, that menopause happens to everything and a histrectomy will throw any animal into menopause early, shortening thier life span. Everything needs hormones to be healthy. I feel for you and your dog, it sucks that Ontario has to be like that. I get people giving my dog dirty looks alot too, it really p!sses me off, anf sometimes I will yell at them, luckily though I find around here the generation in thier 20's and 30's are less prejudice and from that group Roofie gets alot of compliments on how pretty she is and I really appreciate those people.

I know we just had a posting up that all pitbulls had to be out of our area by June 7th. The thing is most of them are mixed breeds but I too worried about those that look too much like pits. I have not had a problem with any of them in my area so I hated to see this ban come down. I know there are mean ones in the world but it is how they are raised that makes the difference. Next thing you know they are going to say all black cats have to be gone because they may bring bad luck. It is crazy in my opinion. I sometimes think some people have way too much time on their hands and start these things just for something to do.
