I tried Vista and it stank and when I get a new computer, I will use my start up disk and install XP. In my opinion the Vista program is like the Yugo of computer programs. Sorry if I offended anyone who has or loves Yugos. I would say definately get XP. What I would do, is go browse the computers and check out the Vista programs on the demo computers. I don't know if you have a Best Buy or a Circuit City, but the electronics stores have displays where you can "play" with the computer and decide if you like it or not. I would do that and check out Vista and see if it is to your liking.

Bravo, student7! I guess great minds really do think alike. When I bought a PC with Vista Home Basic, I "upgraded" to XP with my special disc.

Please tell us about your budget ...otherwise i cant be apt.... any ways i will give u a decent config a core 2 duo 6300 - not a pentium D the performance is far far better for the money.... an intel 965 based motherboard.... a Geforce 8 series card - cost around than 6000rs and windows xp is good for all kind of games.... if u get 1 GB RAM DDR2 if u get 2 GB RAM then go for vista ...it will be an eye candy....please provide the budget so that i can help u better ...

ya what u said is right ...but to my experience i may say that ...even thought microsoft asks u for a 128 mb graphics card minimum ..its not used up completely to show the native vista graphics.....the graphics handling in Vista is superb much better architecture than XP....if u wanna proof then install 3ds max or some 3d application and make a model render it in real time mode...u will see the difference....try this in XP and vista...basically u can argue that dx10 on dx9 card is not used but for me ....the graphics card was utilized the good way in vista then in XP.....i am not arguing with u...its simply sharing my experience.... dont take it hard....

You should Use XP.When you use your PC for graphics-intensive activities, such as playing games or editing video, the information necessary to display images is buffered in graphics RAM. You'll need a lot of dedicated graphics RAM to handle today's complex, texture-rich games. The more complicated the game or image you're viewing, the more memory you'll need. These days, you'll easily find budget graphics cards with at least 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM (some may still come with 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM). You'll want this amount at a minimum, since, for Windows Vista, Microsoft's initial recommendations are to have a graphics board with 128MB of memory to run Vista's Aero Glass graphics-heavy interface. Mainstream and power graphics boards offer 256MB to 512MB of memory; 512MB is common on consumer-level power boards, though at least one board with two graphics processors (see below) offers 1GB of DDR3 SDRAM as of this writing (5/9/2007). Newer boards are starting to offer a theoretically faster DDR4 SDRAM as well.

If you really want a new and fast Gaming Rig, try to check www.alienware.com they have the best specification for gamers or www.voodoopc.com. But for the new OS I still prefer the XP than Vista, coz some of my friends that's using vista they told me that there are some problem with their Windows Vista. Just wait for a couple of months or a year before installing the new Windows Vista so that your PC will surely run smoothly.

well for most of the games that is out today they may run in XP well, vista is good but the problem is if you don't have a motherboard and other parts that supports vista the OS will not work, most of the new computers today has a separate installers if you plan on using vista. Xp or vista? for me i think, it's a matter of the person who's going to use. for your specs in a pc, it will depend on your budget but if you have good amount to spend, here what i think would be good Pentium 4 dual core 3.4ghz 1-2gB DDR2/DDR MEMORY A 160-300 GB HARDISK FOR BIG SPACE 512MB DDR VIDEO CARD GET ATI OR NVIDIA A 17 IN FLAT SCREEN MONITOR A DVD DRIVE (MOST OF THE GAME TODAY IS IN DVD FORMAT) A COMFORTABLE KEYBOARD A VERY GOOD OPTICAL MOUSE

I would buy a new one with Vista installed. For serious games, Alienware would be a good buy. Or Voodoo pc's. They can get kind of expensive though. I think even Dell makes some gaming computers now that might be cheaper! Good luck getting a new computer! How exciting. I love new computers. lol

Processor - dual core with 3.0 Ghz. you may buy dual core2. but the latest technology is quantcore. RAM - 1 GB minimum u may buy 2 GB DVD writer is must. Speakers depends on ur need. Hard Disk - 160 GB is minimum u may buy more according to ur needs. Monitor is also depends on ur need. but LCD screen or TFT monitor are very popular these days. minimum is 17 inch. Windows Vista is the latest version. but the professional says that if u r a professional then buy vista. if not buy windows XP. but i used both so i recommend vista...

I would say don't get a computer with Vista. There are still bugs and a lot of existing software won't work with it unless the companies offer upgrades free upgrades for your existing software. Windows XP is stable, tried and tested. I suggest stay with XP. If your playing games get a good graphics card 256+MB and soundcard. Hope this helps.

Windows XP is way better than vista. Why? Because Vista has just been released and probably has lots of problems. Windows XP has been out for a while, and has all its bugs worked out. Windows Vista might seem cool, but all those special effects and everything slow down your computer. Why do you think the processors that are in the computers with vista on it are 3.0+ ghz? Get Windows XP Pro, its more reliable than Vista.
