If you value your friendships here... a word to the wise!

No outlet for the love you share with your friends - No outlet for all the good things we give to others here - that stinks!

I've spent this morning reading some discussions about members being banned, and I learned that one of my friends with whom I interacted regularly was banned this week. I am deeply disappointed, not only because I think she was unfairly targeted, but also because I have no way to contact her other than myLot. SO, if you value your friends here, you might want to swap email addys, lest the Grim Deleter part you from them permanently! For my friends: I get my email from my ISP, Comcast, which goes to the domain comcast.net. If you stick my username in front of that with the right li'l piece of punctuation, you will be able to reach me forevermore.... or at least as long as I can afford my cable bill! Peace!

Question how do you know someone has been banned? Does their profile disappear? Do they get one last (meal.. LOL) PM to let their friends know? I have heard their account is still opne they just can't use it.

This is the discussion where I heard about becuttieusa being banned: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1163823.aspx?p=1 (I CAN COPY AND PASTE! I CAN COPY AND PASTE! YIPPEEEEE!) She and I had an ongoing conversation in PMs, she dropped off the face of the earth a while ago, looked at her page, last logged in 2 weeks ago, and she hadn't mentioned leaving or anything, she just vanished.

There was someone on my list that was banned. Their profile is still up but all of their discussions and comments are gone.

I wonder why good members get banned. Could it be a violation with referrals somewhere? Maybe MyLot sees them as a threat because they get many responses or have a strong friend network. However exchanging email addresses is a good idea to stay in touch. Also the link on your profile page can be directed to where ever you want. So check it to see if you can contact your friends that way.

Good thought, coolseeds, if one got banned over a spam complaint, we'd not be able to tell by anything there is in their discussions, etc. I didn't think about that.

Do you know why she got banned. What are the reasons someone could be banned besides coping other peoples work?

I don't know why she was banned, perhaps no one does, except admin. Mylot frowns on flaming, obscenity, spamming and ref links in discussions, one line discussion or responses, plagerism, posting of personal information (your own or another's). No one seems to be exactly sure of why this individual or that has been kicked out. If I discover any information, I'll be back to post it for you.

I'm curious about what got her banned. Could you share? I try to keep my discussions and responses within guidelines. I wonder what types of things get people banned.

That's the unsettling part, no one seems to know what's happening with all the banning, or the reasons behind it.

I don't know who all has been banned, and I have no idea why they would be banned if they weren't violating any of the rules, but you are right, we should be sure to get permanent contact information from our friends, just in case. Just because she can't log on though doesn't mean that she can't read your posts, so hopefully she will read your post and know how to reach you.

I have exchanged email addresses with a few close friends. This helps me to stay in touch with them. I also "talk" with other members from mylot in other forums. Sometimes this is how I hear about members being banned or locked out of mylot. I agree that if you have friends here that you treasure or value, take care to not lose touch with them. Beware the Grim Deleter!!!

it is true if you want to keep in touch with friend here its best to get an email address. With all the bannings going on. You never know who will be the next target. I do know there are people who have been unjustly banned from here.

Yes that is actually a great idea. Mylot banned a lot of people in recent weeks and they were not given any kind of warnings or notifications. That is really unfair. People make a lot of friends here who they interact with on a daily basis and just one day, they come to sign in to mylot to see how their friends are doing and the it happens, they can't sign in. They contact mylot and no response. Some return using nw accounts and some others just move on to some other things. It is really a shame.

That's sad! I see a lot of flooders here getting along well, I can't imagine why they would ban a nice poster? I hope we will never lose touch. And I hope you can find your friend. Maybe someone here knows her.
