Problem With Netflix Movies!!!

I recently signed up with NetFlix again. For those of you who do not know it is a service where you can rent dvd's online and have them mailed to your home and you keep them as long as you want, then mail them back, postage paid. Anyway, I have never purchased a dvd player, because I have always been able to play my movies on my computer. I have Windows XP home edition. Anyway, I had rented one movie and it played fine, but then the next movie did not play at all. So I e-mailed Netflix about the problem and they wrote me back and said something about some movies being made differently now. I guess they have a stronger copy guard. They also said something about adjusting my screen resolution. I tried that, but nothing worked. I sent the movie back and they sent me another copy, but I had the same problem, but then, I watched the movie on a friends dvd player and it was fine. Does anybody have a clue as to how I can adjust my computer for Windows dvd player or do I need to give up and purchase a separate dvd player?

DVD players are fairly cheap these days. My first one I ever bought was from wal-mart for like barely $40 and it lasted me years...bet there are even better deals out there too.

Okay, I may have to go ahead and buy one. I was just hoping that since I have one on my computer that I would not have to.

I have heard this as well some movies are being made different. I first found this out because of cd's, I have an stero I got years ago but never used it and it's a nice one. Well I got it out and used it a little I went to play a new cd and it wouldn't play. Someone told me they are made a little different now then a few years ago so i guess it's the same with dvd's now. But I agree with the other person dvd's are not pertty cheap now, so maybe your best bet is to just pick one up on sale or something. I use my computer for movies to when we travel and things. My husban is in the army and we travel right much so my computer is used right much so far I have had no problems with the movies but I will start to look at them a little better.

Thank you so much for this information. I got frustrated and ended up cancelling my account with them. People have told me that I need to change my screen resolution and then it will work. I tried that and it did not do anything.
