I have declared at least three majors in my life, but still have no idea what degree I want to attain. I have become a professional student. Although, I love to learn, at some point, I want to graduate. I was a Journalism major, then English and then Psychology. The one I liked the most was Psychology, but I don't know that it is right for me. Oh wait, I forgot that I went to a trade college and became a Medical Assistant/Cardiac Technician also. Now, I am in a slump, I live right across the street from a college and I don't want to go. There are just to many options. And the fact that I know that I will have to face math, before I graduate is frightening. Oh, I am also an aspiring writer. I like helping people and it seems to come natural for me, but the medical field drained me dry and I don't want to go back there. I watched the movie, "The Pursuit Of Happyness," and became inspired, but I just don't know which field is right for me. I could go on forever about the things that I would like to try or learn, but I need to decide one at least one. So tell me, where did you go and what was your major?

I studied psychology at the University of Michigan - Dearborn. I started off as pre-med, but I took a psych course randomly and I fell in love!

Yes, I love psychology too, but it is difficult to go into that field if your disorder will be worse than your patients. I have Borderline Personality Disorder, how does that grab you? Anyway, I went to a book store and bought $500.00 worth of psychology books after failing to finish in college, so I have been doing my own little personal study for 5 years and I have learned a lot and it has made me a totally different person in so many ways.

Obviously your field is not in science or anything to do with maths. Being a teacher will certainly suit your role but thats my opinion as I do not know you =) I'm attending the University of Sydney in Australia and currently doing Pharmacy

Oh, that would be nice. My sister is a pre-school teacher. She has a lot of fun and gets the chance to be very creative. I will look into that. Just as long as I don't have to teach math, HA, Ha.

I went to our local Jr college and got my certificate in nursing, first as an LVN then upgraded to an RN. I then studied and passed the registery to become a Registered Sleep Technologist. I then was in college to get my bachelors degree in Business Management to go along with my nursing until I got so sick I could not function anymore and became disabled. I was taking classes on line for my bachelors degree at Kaplan College. I loved the online classes and formum. I enjoyed not having to go to class execept on the computer. I could go in my bunny slippers. LOL

Right now I'm taking a break from school. While I was going to school I was at Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL and my major was Web Information Technology. Pretty much what they call web design.

i'm currently a sophomore student at the premiere university in our country..i'm a Psychology major. Like you, i'm an aspiring writer..i want to write in the literary field..not the news type, the journalism stuff..but here i am, learning psychology in college... It just so crossed my mind back when i was applying for college..i don't want a hobby of mine (which is writing stories) to be a profession...people told me i'm good at "psychologizing" other people, that's why i chose my current course..i said to myself, "hey! i could be a psychologist at the same time a writer..but i could never be a writer and do psychology work"... so for me, to take up Psychology has an advantage...i could easily switch professions in the future..since my type of psychology is industrial... But then i have also thought of going into business, after graduation...of course, i have to work to have the money to start business..i'm planning on opening a boutique..with self-designed clothes and accessories...

A lot of people do their major profession until they retire and then they do the writing. By that time, they have the time and are more muture and have experienced enough to write about. The only thing about me writing is that I don't like when people critique my work. When they do that, I get this attitude like, it is what it is, like it or lump it, but leave it alone. A lot of times when people read my poetry, they say you need to add more verse. I can not do that, once it is finished, that is it.

When I graduated from High school, I knew what I wanted to do as a career. Right now I am attending SUNY Cobleskill and working on my Bachelor's of Technology in Plant Science, horticulture. I can't wait to graduate and I will be moving to Florida to pursue a career in the field.

I took Horticulture in the seventh grade and the only thing that I learned is that I don't have a green thumb.

Even though I didn't graduate, I went to our local community college, North Idaho College (NIC). My first year was office assitant and my second year was child development. I just decided it wasn't for me and don't plan to go back, but you never know.

I started out in electrical engineering and then switched to computer programming in junior college. I have a 2 year degree in business. Several year later, I took classes at EMU (Eastern Mi U) and wanted to get a four year degree in computer systems. I came within about 5 or 6 classes short. I was going through a divorce at the time and never had the desire to return and finish college after that. I have seen that movie and it was inspiring. I think college is misleading. It does not gaurantee anything. I think you coud do well to figure out what you would like doing most and start doing it. Even if it doesn't take any more schooling, fine. All it takes is an idea, a dream and some follow through.

As much as I hate to admit it, my main problem is motivation. I may know how you felt when you went through a divorce and then stop going to school. Relationships have always thrown me for a loop. I am very sensitive and when a relationship falls apart, I fall to pieces. And this is something that I am working on right now.

I have attended Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. I want to go back to school for LPN or medical billing. With my business management degree I want to own my own business. Maybe when my daughter gets old enough to start going to school I could go to the local techincal college for LPN. Good luck with deciding on a major.

I went to a state university under a scholarship grant. I took Biology as my major course because I was more interested on animals and plants. I became more aware of the environment and interaction we have among living things. I had the intention of proceeding to medicine as my ultimate goal but it wasn't materialized because of financial constraints. I landed on a teaching job and taught Biology in another state university upon my graduation from college.

I graduated high school a year early and got a scholarship, so I went to the local school where I was living at the time - McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. I first decided my major was Psychology, and I liked it for awhile. My immaturity caught up with me, though. I was too busy partying and dropped out. Now, when I go back to school, I'm fairly certain I won't be going for Psychology. Either Video Game Art & Design, Video Game Programming, or Accounting (not sure where I want to go with that, just love numbers). Needless to say, I'm not going back yet, although it's been about three and a half years since I dropped out. I hope to go back this spring though. That'd be awesome, at least to start getting my basics done until I decide what I want to do.

That's cool. When you are good at math, you can pretty much write your own ticket. I wish you the best.

I will give you the advice someone told me when i couldn't decide. i was told that i should just try something and if i liked it to stick with it. you can't plan for the next 10 years, it is a series of little steps and you might make mistakes, but that will only enrich you as a person! Hope you academic journies are sucessful.

I completely understand that "Life happens while you're making plans." But, when I try to do the things that I most want to do and they don't work out, I get frustrated and give up. I know that when you fall off a bike you should get back on, but trying and then failing takes so much out of me, that I become afraid to try again.

I have been attending university for about 3 years now and what Ive noticed is that their are so many students/young adults in the exact same situation. There are endless possibilities of what to do with one's life but I believe that if you are at a crossroads you should sit down and really think about what your passion is and what you love to do. It is perfectly normal for college students to switch majors because the truth is half of us dont know what we wanna be anyways. If you really dont know what to do in school I suggest taking some sort of business program. That's what I am taking right now and I have realized that many students are joining business because they do not know what they want to do later on. The fact is with a business degree or certificate you become educated in the art of making money which most of us want would like to know about. The great thing about business is that you can basically persue any feild you wish yet still have the knowledge on how to make yourself sucessfull. Think about it!

I went as far as 7th form in College (sorry not sure what the equivalent is here in USA) and dropped out. I was never that good in any subject besides Maths and Computers. I worked as a library assistant for the National Library of New Zealand (got the position through a Pacific Island scheme) and a few years after returned to school (Teachers Training College) to complete my Library and Information Studies Certificate. It was the only way I was able to work my way up the corporate ladder. I scored several senior positions thereafter, then moved to Samoa. While working for a non profit organization, I went back to school (the local National University of Samoa) and completed some business management and administration papers. I had one more paper to complete before getting my Diploma, but because we moved here, I was unable to finish it :( Since my son will be starting school in September this year, I have been thinking about going back to school but not sure whether I should pursue a library career again or go back into business administration or try something completely new. I'm not sure if they have a Cisco's program here (computing) so I might look into that :) We shall see.
