Do you think electric shoking is good for depressed peoples?

Today we had a session on ETC(Electric stimulation) for the depressed peoples.Our professor said it holds good for the treatment of depression,mania and anxiety.He also said about the various myhts people have about the electric stimulation that there will be injury to the brain and head etc which are not true...what do you think about this procedure??Do you think its good for the depression treatment??

Well i got my grandpa cured out of schizophernia by shock treatment at his severity. He is fine now. But i ask for my mom. who is suffereing from same, but one dr suggest its not advisable, not sure why they say so..??
