Is buying a high end cellphone important?

I remember when cellphones hit the country. It sold like hot pancakes. Everybody's buying one and changing it so very often. The cellphone now has become a necessity, even I was convinced that I bought my kids each, just the low end ones, no fancy features. After a few years I believed that people have become practical in choosing their cellphones. I've seen friends who after changing so often finally settled to their old reliable model. With the economic downtrend do you still think that it's practical to buy high end cellphones?

I've never been too big on having the "latest" thing, so I don't really worry so much about whether my cell phone is high end or not. As long as it keeps working, I don't really care if it has all of the bells and whistles. I was a little jealous when my fiance got his new phone, because it was much nicer than mine, but I know that I can get a newer one in a couple of years, and as long as my old one holds up, it doesn't really matter.
