I do have this problem and it drives me nuts. I am in the middle of something and suddenly my dsl goes down. I know what the problem is.. it is because I live in a small town where only 4 of us has dsl and the system here is not very good but it is the only game in town. They hate hearing from me when it goes down for a long period because I know more then most of the techs do which isn't a lot so that is bad*L* I have gotten to the point I don't even let them send the techs to my house anymore because they get so nervous and end up asking me questions.*L* The guy in the home office does know what he is doing and so I just talk to him and he already knows he has to do it over the phone with me. It goes down everytime we have a lot of rain or snow, if the wind blows too hard, or if someone sneezes by the building*L*

I see. Usually with DSL connection you only have to change some settings on the router. If you know how to get to your router settings (you can ask your ISP for assistance for that if you dont), just find the "MTU" settings and change it, by interval of 8, usually it starts with 1500 (e.i., 1492..1484...etc) until you get the right settings for your connection that it will not be 'intermittent' anymore. Its kinda doin' a trial and error method to be able to figure out what is the best MTU settings for you connection.
