Despite all the health warnings about HIV and AIDS, many people still believe that they are not at risk. What scares me even more is that many people still believe that HIV and AIDS awaits only those who are sexually immoral or homosexual. HIV affects people at EVERY point on the risk spectrum. Ironically, there is always the possibility that those who are most "at risk" for the infection...never become infected. That alone should be an eye-opener. Last year on "World AIDS Day" it was reported that 39.5 million people are living with HIV worldwide. It's the shadow of this harsh statistic that keeps many from coming forward for HIV testing. However, testing is vital because early detection of the disease allows for early treatment resulting in a healthier life. Tomorrow HIV testing will be available free of charge all over the country. The key goal of HIV Testing Day is to give everyone the opportunity to "Know Their Status." Knowing your status allows you to protect yourself as well as your loved ones. Do you believe that HIV testing should be a part of EVERYONE'S routine health maintenance??

Yes I agree, too many people think they are not at risk and HIV/AIDS can affect everyone. People should get tested because it is best to know your status should you test positive treatment is very important to live a healthier life like you mentioned. This is an excellent post you started and I hope many people go to get tested. I am rating your post positive and thanks again for such an important post. If this post gets one person to get tested then it has done it's job!

Hello Docta_Feel and Welcome! I agree it is important for us to take part in this global Aids Testing and awareness. I have yet to hear about it here on my island of Saipan but I will call Public Health on Monday and ask questions. I have had 6 HIV and Aids test in the past ten years, each time when I was pregnant and right after delivering my kids. I will admit that it can be scary especially emotionally when you are in the mist of waiting for results, but that it something I have to do reguardless what my opinions or beliefs about the disease! Thank you for posting this, it has been truly informative and Welcome to Mylot, my friend!
