A fire in South Lake Tahoe, 2000 feet from my home

I live in Tahoe and the wildfire came within 2000 feet from my home. We are moving out to Meyers on July 1st. Over 200 homes have been destroyed. This is heartbreaking, I feel like I am living in the most gorgeous place on earth and the fire investigators are saying it was started by a human, most likely a CAMPER! This kills me! Why aren't people more CAREFUL!?

I have to admit that's one of my biggest fears, my house going up in fire. I know, houses can be replaced. But not everything in side. What would I pack? What would I do? Where would I go? Most fires are started by people. Some being careless, some just by accident. It's scary and sad none the less.

We are ready to evacuate with our important papers, then pictures and negatives, clothing then what room I had left in the truck I packed irreplaceable family heirlooms like my Great Grandmas Ming Red China and wooden carvings my famous Finnish cousin carved 50 years ago. Most everything else can be replaced. I hate to lose antique furniture, however only one piece is an heirloom! Every time I start hearing sirens and helicopters, I wake up wondering if the wind has shifted and the fire is headed our way! It is very fearful!

I couldn't imagine living in constant fear like that. Well, i suppose it's almost what I go through when a hurricane is approaching. But I think a fire is worse. good luck.
