If you had a choice, would you have picked another name when you were born?

Sometimes I wish I'd had more input into choosing my own name. My real life name means person standing beside water. Or, something like that. Could explain why I love the beach! What about you? What does your name mean? If you had a choice, would you have picked another name when you were born?

My mom has 2 excelent reasons for giving me my name. My first name is Mary and I was born in Dec 24th. Yes Christmas Eve. So for starters considering my mom was inthe hospital for Christmas and in the Christian religin Christmas day is the day Jesus was born to the Virgen Mary. I was also given the name Mary because my mom has a sister Mary that she looked up to at the time and she wanted to honor her older sister. Honestly I wouldent change my name at all for those 2 simple reasons.

I think my name is just suitable with my surname. I am happy to it and I don't have any purpose to change it. Thanks for my parents to give me such a nice name.

Maybe parents do really have an insight into the person their children will grow up to become. Maybe that is why they pick the baby names they do. I'm happy enough with my real name, but it's very old fashioned. I love my nickname though. Much shorter and more me, anyway.

I definitely would have chosen another name. It's not that mine is "bad" exactly, it's just a little too different for where I live and comes with a stereotype that couldn't be any less like me. They technically made it up from two names they liked at the time but it has begun to show up in popular baby name books as an "American" name meaning her life.

I have always liked my name, even as a kid. I didn't like the middle name that went with it though. My name means joyous song, and like you I have often wondered if that is why music is so important to me. My mood can change in a instant by just hearing a song.

i just love my short name. My mother gave it to me and with my 4 letter name, still some of my friends omit the last letter and just call lar. i dont know why is it so hard to say the last letter a. maybe its because they have to say it in 2 syllable and saying it in 1 syllable is much easier.

I always hated my name growing up, my friends all had popular modern names but mine was old fashioned and rarely used anymore and the nickname that comes with it took a lot of teasing, I still am not crazy about my name but my father named me after a song that had a special meaning to him, my kids all have modern and unique names.

Oh, yes! I am very familiar with that situation. My name was the oldest name of anyone I knew. I had plain Jane name and everyone else got to be Ashley or Hope or Alex, or some new hip name. Not me. I'm still not sure where my real name came from. But, it does suit me as an adult. So, maybe I am lucky that I didn't have a choice in my name.
