Stop buying foreign ..or something to that effect. I retired from Ford Motor Company and have see many companies either downsize or leave the area for outsourcing in other countries. How will the future generations in the United States maintain their high lifestyle if all the good jobs are outsourced? Do not the young people see the job opportunities going overseas? I was offered to go back to work in the Chicago Assy..I would keep my retirement but could get social security too..the job in Chicago would pay only half of what I was making..but since my wife and I are retired..all this money would be gravy...up to $12,400.00 before it effects my social security. I see a lot of people never retiring..I was told this is the last generation that will be able to retire. What are your thoughts?

One reason for this is minimum wage laws. If it weren't for those, companies would not need to outsource so urgently. Everyone would be payed less, but at least we would have jobs. Even now, most of the jobs here are still here only for one of two reasons: 1: The job is a service job, or must be done locally, and cannot be outsourced. 2: Undeveloped countries do not have enough skilled labor for the particular job. As for this being the last generation that can retire, this is mostly because people simply do not save money. They spend their entire lives in debt in order to have things that they couldn't really afford, and therefore they live paycheck to paycheck. Since their money is used up on things that are too expensive for their income, and interest on a dozen different loans they can't save any. When they are finally to decrepit to work, they realize that they have no way to support themselves. It is a very bad situation, and is made worse by corporation retirement programs and government programs, like social security. These things give people an excuse not to save money, because they think that their savings will be handled by others. Unfortunately, companies can go bankrupt (or suddenly cease their retirement programs), and social security can fail, due to lack of money. Which leaves them where?

You hit the nail on the head. I was lucky to have been raised by parents who brainwashed us with the saying "it is not how much you make that counts but how much you can save" and they lived to be very old but they had Social Security and my father's pension. Now I have been blessed with a frugal wife and ever since 1985 we have both been working and we don't have to touch our "nest egg" and we took the early buy out from Ford over a year ago..next year will be full pension and I already am getting Social Security but like you said..you can't count on the government or a company because pensions have a way of going away. Thank God I have a frugal wife..lol Thanks for the good advice as I think what you said makes a lot of sense. Yes, my kids spend everything they make and then some..but I have told them a long time ago to spend a little but save a lot..but I know the younger generation wants everything right now and will not save money ...even for their own retirement...maybe youth is wasted on the young?

Youth wasted on the young? It always has been, ever since Adam said to Eve, "Look at these ingrate kids; we try to raise them right, but look, one of them killed the other!"

Sorry, but I'm not buying any new car until our jobs stay here. I'll buy used American cars that were made here until I die because so many people working for Ford, GM and Mopar are out jobs due to the NAFTA agreement. Let the Mexicans and Chinese buy 'em. They're building them now.

I like the way you talk..i only owned American made cars and trucks..but some of the cars like the Fusion is made in Mexico..so watch out..and some of the Japanese cars are made here in the US..but the profits goes to Japan..so buy domestic..keep the money in the US as these countries don't help us any. GM is bringing a Chinese car called a CherY? for about ten grand..that is pretty cheap..but i would rather buy a used American car..like you..then buy this type of car..or truck..good thinking on your part
