I went to the Philippines in 1996 and it was so HOT and it was December..Christmas I was in a tank top, shorts, and flip flops and I was really hot when I was out of A/C..we spent three weeks and on New Years Eve we spent time with our friends in Tokyo..but the heat was gone and it was about 50 degrees cooler..lol I live in Michigan and we have four seasons..not like the Philippines..wet and then very hot... My asawa wants a home in Negros OCC or Cebu and I just nod my head and don't say anything But the last two times she went to the Philippindes she would get very sick..body swells, diaherea, vomiting..fevers..etc..I did not go with her these times...as it was cheaper for me to stay in our home.. as my wife is always afraid someone is going to rob us..the only one who robbed us was her Filipina neice and her American husband..and they live in Chicago.. but how do I tell her that the Philippines is OK for a vacation but I do not want to live their ...I can't take the heat..and I would miss my A/C too much

I doubt if it's about the security. Filipinos have a very powerful kinship system that your wife might find difficult to severe. It is always the case with all filipinos, there is something in us that always long to go back home. It's sad that you and your wife can't stay here. If you look past the heat, there are actually lots of things here that you can get to love, which I'm sure will be enough to make you consider to stay.

btw, to answer your question, just tell her honestly. A debate might follow but she'll appreciate the honesty.

Of course I didn't know the entire story. But still though, it's sad that you can't give it a second chance. But well, each to his own. Goodluck on whatever both of you decided.

.. I believe that as a couple, each one of us is entitled to say what we want in a very positive and nice way..Just tell her how you feel about moving in for good here in the Philippines. I know that she will consider you because you are her husband.. It is great because you are open to vacationing once in a while, let her understand your side. God Bless you!

Since my passport and hers is up to date. We could go anytime..except May through November..rainy season? maybe this Christmas as I was in Manila Christmas eve 1996 and it was very hot then..hottest weather i ever say..but for New Years Eve we were in Tokyo, Japan and the temp. was really more to my liking..ahhhh just like a/c outside..but i think it is best if she travels by herself..as she did three years ago..i just get in her way..and she worries about me getting kidnapped or robbed..lol.but i always travel with one of her family and don't go out alone..safer that way..but if she is alone the local merchants don't charge more..this is what she and her brother told me to never go shopping with them..lol..

I understand what you feel. Maybe you can just have a thorough talk with her. Go slow and share your feelings about how you can't tolerate the heat and the wetness. Communication is very important and have a heart to heart discussion. I hope you can move to Chicago soon and experience Christmas in snow. Have a nice day to you!

Then live there is you like weather. Me, I still prefer to live back home phils though it's cooler here too in taiwan. It feels to be geting more and more hot in phils every year esp. in summer. Youre used to living in cold places and it must be all about your body's cannot cope anymore to the heat here.(and vice versa for people living phils who cannot cope to super cold icy weather) If you bring some plants there who used to grow there, it would die here, some survive, same with the animals.

My fiance is an American. But we live here in the Philippines. He hates the heat too, he doesn't like going out too much. So we have the A/C on most of the time. The electric bill is rather high, but it doesn't matter to me that much because it makes him comfortable. I come from a big family (8 children and 14 grandchildren), and since we are a closed-knit family, he is considered a member of the family. Everyone(well, almost everyone) runs to the rescue whenever we need help. He appreciates that. He may not like the weather, the heavy traffic during rush hours and the attitudes of some fresh people we encounter whenever we go out, but he enjoys the warmth of the love of the family, plus, the cost of living here is much cheaper, compared to the US. He also has an 85-year-old American friend who lives close by, who's been living here with his wife for the last 15 years. So I guess it isn't so bad at all. In the beginning, maybe, you will need to adjust. But eventually, you could get used to it. Vacations here are fine, though. If you believe you really will never be able to adjust to the weather here, you may just have to tell your wife honestly about it. She's a Filipina, she will understand.

Well you could always try moving to a safer area of the US if she is worried about security but from what I have heard on mylot here, it sounds like the crime in the Phillipians is just as bad as anywhere else. At least there aren't as many wierd bugs and diseases where it is colder. Is she just worried about sevurity or does she miss other things about the Phllipians? You could always try for Canadian citizenship, I'm pretty sure we have less violent crime than the US. And it doesn't get any hotter here tha in the US, probably it's colder.

I would tell her straight out just like you stated it here.If she loves you she'll understand. It's not like you never let her go or aren't willing to go at all,you just don't want be there full time.I'm not real good with constant heat either,so a week or two tops is all I can handle and I LOVE the Bhamas.

Just tell him in a nice way why you prefer not to live in the Philippines primarily because of the heat. I am sad that you can't join your wife here that easily. Of course, I understand that your "asawa" will always love to be here no matter what (that's the way Pinoys are). There are a lot of foreigners who have already settled here and they love the sun here which is not your case.
