Is the media getting way out of control?

I watched the news a couple of days ago and there were many subjects that were really overly drawn out and focused upon. Subjects that really didn't matter, or that I could've lived with only hearing a quick update. Such as Paris Hilton and weather or not she is really changed or it was an act. Or the new IPhone and how so and so waited in line forever and what they plan to do with thier phone ect. ...

yes, with so many 24 hours news channels, they seem to have run out of topics. In India they do a lot of sting operations to get viewers attention, but on the whole it is boring stuff about how difficult it is to get admissions in school.
