I am sort of taking a survey here. I am looking to use the Little House on the Prarie books for a school theme unit for the kids next year and I was wondering how many of you read these as a child? Also, could you tell me which was your favorite and why? I personally don't think that I had a favorite although I liked all of them. I personally preferred the Boxcar Children books. I have one kid who doesn't like those books at all though,so I can't use them.

I have never seen workbooks to go with them. Where does she get her books? I might need to check our local bookstores. I did find a Little House cookbook at the library that I think will be a big help for us to use with the cooking of things that we read about.

I haven't read the Little House on the Prairie books, but we had a television series here which was based on them. I would think they'd create an ideal theme unit for the kids as they will teach them about past life in America, and maybe even a little bit of history. Why not test it out with one or two kids first, and get their opinions on what they got from the books, then introduce them to your class? Brightest Blessings.

My class is just two kids as I home school my children. I think it will help make history a little more interesting too. I know the show had a lot of good stuff to it. I think the books are a great learning tool.

Yes, I agree with you, they're lovely books and quite educational. I'm sure they'll love to learn from them.

I loved the Little House on the Prarie books as a child. My favourite was Little House in Big Woods. The television series didn't do justice to the books at all, it was very poor. My baby is due in a couple of months and these are just some of the books I am looking forward to revisiting with my new baby, along with the Narnia books, which I think the film portrays really well. Good luck with your teaching

Thanks for your input on this subject. I think they are excellent books and would make a great lesson. I have never read the Narnia books or seen the movie. I might check into it too.

I loved these books. I can't say I can pick a favorite. I read them over and over. I read a few of the Boxcar Children books but, I didn't like them as much as these.

I read the Boxcar Children several times too. I am not sure that anyone can pick a favorite book out of this series.
