i have never donated blood. the fact is that i am so anaemic that i would not be able to donate even if i wished it. so what about you? have you ever donated blood? how was your experience? i have read that people feel dizzy and exhausted after donating, more like their energy has been sponged out. share your thoughts friends.

I have never been able to donate blood because of anemia as well. However, I have recieved blood before, and I am very grateful to the unknown person or persons out there that saved my life with their sacrifice. I always feel bad when there is a blood drive going on or when my friends give because it's something that I can't do, but there are many other ways in which I help others, so I guess it evens out in the end somehow.

yes, there are many mays in which you can help others. no need to feel bad, cause everyone is not so capable of donating. after all it requires a lot of strength.

The first time I donated blood was back in high school. Our school had a blood drive and I did it to get extra credit for a class. At first I was okay, but once I got back to class I started to feel dizzy and light headed. So if you are thinking about donating blood. I suggest you eat a really good meal before hand. I thought I had but apparently it wasn't enough. I guess the best part of the experience for me was I found out what my blood type was. Up until then I never knew and never thought to ask my parents. Now the blood banks are always calling me to donate blood because of my blood type.

I think giving blood is wonderful for everyone involved. It is fairly easily and relatively painless for me. Here is what happens: First you will need to fill out forms which tell your personal information. They need to know weight, health problems, meds, etc. This is to rule out problems with donating. Then, they take a sample of your blood. They have always done this with my ear but there might be other ways. This is to test to see if you are anemic or sick, I believe. It does sting but not bad. Then, they stick you and draw out your blood. I always have to pump a ball to get my blood to flow or something. It can be a little uncomfortable but not really painful. It is like giving the gift of life. I think of all the good people that are being helped while I lie there. After you are done, they usually give you juice and cookies and have you rest for awhile. I have never got dizzy or had problems afterwards but I do not do manual labor.
