I think the BEST time to quit would be when you find out if you are pregnant, However I have seen some people who smoke their entire pregnancy. A lot of older people did. I guess when it wasnt shown it could hurt the baby, Did you smoke when pregnant? Do you know people who do? What do you think on this matter?

I smoked with all 4 of my babies and all are healthy with no problems! I don't agree with everything the Dr.'s say about it like it causes low birth weight. My babies were: 8 lbs 10 oz, 6 lbs 15 oz, 6 lbs 12 oz, & 7 lbs 14 oz. My 6 lb 12 oz baby would have weighed more, but I was induced 2 weeks early as the Dr. thought I was having a big baby and didn't want me to go to full term. I heavily smoked with him also around 3 packs a day and he is very healthy!

My mother smoke since her 16's. She got pregnant at 27 years old, and I think she didn't quit smoking on that time. My brother was born, and he doesn't have his right hand. Maybe the smoking habit did this to him. I'm not sure, though. I just know that, later on, I came to this world, and thank God I'm OK!

Not sure either, I am really not sure about all the effects that come from smoking while pregnant. Thanks for responding! =)

"I am really not sure about all the effects that come from smoking while pregnant" I'm not aware of any links between smoking & birth defects involving the limbs, although I'm sure it's entirely possible. Some of the common & biggest risks are premature birth (the placenta ages faster from trying to filter the toxins & gives out sooner), smaller babies (again placenta deteroration & with a preemie this can further complicate things), miscarrying, and allergy & asmatha (can't seem to spell that today!) risks later in life.

I've tried to quit with each of my children, but have thus far been unable to do more than cut back. There are of course serious risks from smoking, pregnant or not. There are serious risks in every aspect of life. I think the best we can do is be aware of them, and do our best to negate or minimize them. It concerns me when legislation is passed to punish pregnant moms for their addictions (and smoking is an addiction as real as any other) and when society tries to shun women/moms who are not meeting our ideals of what a pregnant woman should or shouldn't be doing. I think those types of things discourage women from getting prenatal care and those women are most in need of prenatal care, emotional support & encouragement to get help for their addictions. When I had my first, way back in the dark ages of 1988-lol- my OB actually told me that smoking wasn't all that bad for my baby. That my child would probably be a little smaller & hey that makes for an easier birth- Of course I know better now. Truth be told, I knew better even then. But having had a child without any health issues caused by smoking made it harder to convince myself the second time around to quit, having two without health issues made it harder to quit the 3rd time- etc.

I am pregnant and a smoker NOT PROUD!!!! I am working on quitting, Before I got pregnant I was taking Zyban to help me but had to quit for the baby. I am working on this for I don't want to die sooner than I have to over a addiction that has me .....I wish I never started and I see that I am not setting a good example for my children. But I will continue to work on this and kick the habit.

I did not smoke while pregnant, but then I am not a smoker. It concerns me to see someone smoking when they are pregnant. It is just such an unhealthy thing to do. I would you not want to give your child all possible chances for a healthy life?

I think the BEST thing to do is not start to smoke. Just don't even try it. Why? People that smokes usually get older earlier, they have bad teeth, they smell bad, other people just dislike staying near to them, some people avoid people that smoke and the worst is that you die earlier, you will have cancer, letal diseases. There are so many negative stuff. So what's the point to smoke? And why smoking while pregnant? If you want to get sick is your own problem, but make others unhealthy is just horrible. So quit this bad habbit!

I think it is wrong. I have had a few of my friends who smoked the whole time though.Thier kids came out fine but still I would be worried. I guess it is their bussiness though.
