What if your cell phone fell in the toilet, what would you do?

Would you start trying to fish it out with your bare hands, grab some toilet paper or paper towel to grab it out, try to slide it out of the water with your foot, or something else? And what do you do afterwards? My ex roommate accidentally washed his phone in the washing machine, and when he called the cell phone provider to find out what to do next, the girl suggested that he 'maybe try putting it in the dryer'?

Hi, Breepeace, I would just fish it out anyway I could and wash my hands later and hope that the phone will work. My wife ran her cell phone through the washing machine. There was no way that it was going to work after that. We went to the verizon store and they told us we were going to have to renew our contract again to get a phone. There is no way thats going to happen so we found an old phone around here to use. I cant imagine putting a phone through the dryer, all that rocking around and I would think the static electricity would kill it. Did it work after that? TAke care, Terry

*LOL* No.. I knew it wouldn't, but he figured if a technician told him to do it, then she must be right. She didn't know what she was talking about. :)

That already happened to me, back when I had my Nokia 3300. He was a little trooper, that phone, it still worked like new after the pee-bath (LOL gross I know!) the only thing that went was the use of two buttons, it wouldn't make contact unless pushed with a pen and with a lot of force. Anyway, I did get it out (rubber gloves to the rescue!) and it was already wet anyway, so I rinsed it with water, opened up the back and removed the battery, towel-dried everything and set it out by a fan for 3 days. (Whatever you do, don't turn it on for a few days because if you do the water and the electricity from the power on will burn some internal part of the phone.) After the 3 days, I took it to a shop and they did some fiddling around, and got my phone back perfectly operating, desite those two buggy buttons. I never take my phone into the bathroom anymore, I think I'll be forever scarred. Hahah!

I am not sure what I would actually do if that happened to me. Hopefully it just wont happen, lol! I can't believe they told your ex roommate to just put it in the dryer. Was this girl serious when she said this or was it meant to be a joke? I hope she was only joking, lol!

Oh no! The girls should have known better. I hope he rang her back up after that. It might not have worked after going through the washing machine, but the dryer would have given it no chance of ever working.

No joke. He ended up using my other roommate's old cell, and then my boyfriend gave him his newer model one when he upgraded to a BlackBerry. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.

hey man it did happen to my nokia 6021 also.. i just took the phone out of the toilet and tried to switch it of first.. but damn!! the phone was not responding.. I knew that i had to some how switch the phone, otherwise its circuits will be all gone..then i opened the cover and toook the battery out.. now the display got turned off.. i just dried it and put it back.. but the phone was not getting turned on.. then i had to open the whole phone up and dry up all its parts seperately n then put em back.. it even didn't respond.. i was lloosing hope!!! i waited for another 2 hours.. As a last gasp effort i turned the switch on.. wallah!! the phone responded n it was working just fine.. Now i hve a doubt.. I THINK THAT THE PHONE IS FASTER NOW!!! GO NOKIA

If you have had babies then getting up to your armpits in sh1t is nothing new so reach in and fish it out. Give it a wash in clean water then dismantle it. Take off the battery and sim card and put it all in the oven and cook at 50C or gas mark 1 with the door open till tender to the touch. haha Allow to cool then assemble and find that the battery has shorted out and is useless. Go to shop and buy a new cell phone and maybe, if you're lucky, your old sim card will work ok.

I'd have to fetch it from the toilet and then get it replaced.

I would probably try to pick it up, falling in the water doesn't mean it doesn't work anymore. Using my hands with a piece of paper would probably be the best option. It never happened to me but a friend of mine dropped her cell phone in the bath, she was lucky and it worked after using a hair dryer.

if it's happen to me,firstly i will take off the battery and dry it,then i'll open the phone case and blow it with the dryer.next step that i'm goin to do is sell the phone and find a new one, bcoz a cell phone that had ever been fallen into water mostly damaged.

Well first of all it depends on what is in the toilet...lol. If it's just water then i would probably get gloves and get it out. If there was something else in there with the phone i would probably get gloves and take it out with the toilet brush or something of that nature. Then i would somehow sanitize it.

Find any means to get it out quickly and then ive heard of seperating the battery and letting it dry out and depending on the type of phone you can put it in the oven for a short time on low to dry out all water. That was what i was told to do when mine fell in the toilet and it did work afterwards but didn't function aswell

Well, after you have changed a few hundred diapers, putting your hands in the toilet is minor. You can always wash your hands or use antibacterial gel. Actually my son, when he was just over one and just starting to walk, to our cordless phone handset and dropped it into the toilet water. I suppose he had seen me swishing dirty diapers in there, etc. He flushed, but of course in 1992 those phone handsets were still way to big to go down. Well, we took it out and it took a few days to dry out inside and outside. It actually worked after that, but when he did it a second time, we couldn't do anything to revive the poor phone handset.

Ha Yes Breepeace Thats something that can happen to any one.But preventing it from happening in the first place is better than think of solution.. It happened to my father once. His phone fell in to toilet and it was turned on when it fell down.. Taking it out was not the bigger problem. It got short circuited & Battery burned and it was smokiiing!! The whole circuits got Fried & obiviously it couldn't be repaired. So He had to buy a New Handset.

hehe,I heard of this kind of thing, but I do not have this experience.because I am so scared that my cell phone may fall in the toilet,so every time I am in toilet,I am so careful about my cell phone.once it falls into the toilet, then we can not get it again.
