What's so great about a diamond ring? Or diamond anything? Who cares if yours is bigger than someone elses? You're the one stuck paying it off! And if everyone has them, then how is it special? I just don't understand!

i think someone maybe not care about it and others maybe care, because diamond represents forever and it looks so beautiful and shiny, so everyone wants it, besides it has values. you have to spend a lot of money to buy one.

But diamonds only represent forever because society has made it that way. Society has put value on diamonds. Society tells us that we must have a diamond ring. Oh well, to each their own.

I do not find them terribly appealing myself. my husband gave me a nice deep blue saphire ring with only a couple tiny diamonds on it, I was pleased with his choice. I think I would much prefer a solitaire pearl than a solitaire diamond. I think they are much more elegant if that is what you are looking for in a ring. I like its symbology too, I think diamonds are cold and indifferent as far as gemstones go.

It sounds like you have a very beautiful ring. I don't think I've seen anyone with a solitaire pearl as a wedding ring. That would be nice. I think you should market that idea, if it's not already out there! :)

I've never understood that one either. I'm not even that big on diamonds. If I am going to wear jewelry, I'd rather have any number of other stones before diamonds. My engagement ring's main stone is a sapphire, though it does have a couple of tiny diamonds just because my husband said he wouldn't feel right about it otherwise. But it wasn't that expensive, and I love it anyway. =)

I love sapphire. It's my birth stone! It must be a very beautiful and unique ring. I didn't want an engagement ring. My husband and I had a small wedding (just him and I!) in Jamaica so we're talking about doing a 10 year thing so our friends and family can see us renew our wedding vows. He wants to reask me to marry him with an engagement ring! I don't want one, but he insists that I must have one. I don't know how to convince him that I don't like them at all!!

I totally agree with you......society has really made a big thing of diamond rings. It's not that one has to have a diamond ring.....it's just up to the individual who wants the diamond ring. We have to be strong cause if we allow society to run our lives we'd be lots of trouble....mainly huge bills we can't get rid of. Love don't cause a dime!!!!
