How or why does the island choose to heal some people and not others.

Supposedly and mysteriously the island heals some people, Locke's legs and gun shot wound, apparently Ben after his surgery even thought it let him get sick in the first place, Rose's illness but others it does not like Boone and his sister and it let Sawyer start to need glasses to read after he arrived on the island. So what determines who the island will heal or protect?

I think the island may heal or not heal people depending on thier faith and what problems they still have or don't have to resolve in life. I think that once you have come to a resolution with the conflicts in your life the island does away with you or at least stops caring what happens to you. Of course there were the two who were burried alive and they obviously had conflict still. Maybe the island does not like greed.

Maybe, but Boone had lots of conflict and didn't seem to be particularly greedy and it didn't heal him. Faith is another matter, Jack got well from his original injury very fast and he certainly didn't have faith in the island even later when there might have been a reason to have it.

Well I suppose that's one of the big questions. Maybe it has something to do with Jacob. I really don't have an answer for you, but I hope we find out soon.

That is probably one we won't get until the last season which is what 3 more seasons? I think that is what they have announced.
