When I was 12, a friend and I went through the woods picking up aluminum cans. For us, a good day would net $25 a piece, so we'd scour all of the "party" areas after a weekend. Well, one day we found a purse that appeared to have been thrown deep into the woods. When we opened it, it had all the "normal" contents you would expect, plus a wallet with over $100. This caused some considerable discussion between us, but we judged that since there was an ID and license the best thing to do was to return it. The father of the 18 yr old came over the house and said his daughter's purse was stolen on Sunday and some boys chased the perps through the woods. I guess the perp decided to loose the evidence and pick it up later. The father thanked us and gave us both $5. I kept mine in a frame. I've recovered other items since then, and if I knew who it belonged to, I'd return it. If I couldn't find the owner, then I kept it without reservation.
