Normal or caesarian delivery?

What should be the basis of this procedure? I mean, do doctors know when should it be taken? I don't have much knowledge of this that's why I want to know some information about it. My sister give birth to her third baby last June 11, 2007. Before it happened, we feel excited and nervous at the same time because her obygiene told that she would undergo caesarian process. We wonder why? She deliver her first two babies normally. Then why she have to go through it? The doctor explained that the baby's in horizontal position in her womb and base on my sister's count, she would give birth on the month of June. Because of this fact her obygiene told her that she have to bring out the baby not later than June 12, or else they will get the baby thru that process. So she decided to go the hospital on June 11 after some hour they brought her to the operating room. She don't feel anything unusual that time but maybe because of the doctor's advise she followed it. As it was opened, the doctor was surprised because they notice that the baby is in his premature stage. They can't do anything but to get the baby out. Base on his physical feature, he is only 8 months old. They put him in incubator but after a week, he died. I was really disappointed and feel sorry for the baby that time. Until now I still feel the same way. I can't accept what happened to him. I feel like it's unfair. That there's something wrong with the process. Don't you think so? Is it right for doctors to depend on their patient's facts? What about the ultra sound? Does it give right information? Do share your thoughts.

i feel sorry 4 the baby, the baby could have been alive because there are cases which the fetus is presented horizontally in the womb and was delivered normally full term, i really wonder why the doctor have to do cesarean that early, all he have to do is wait for the labor process, that should be the time he can decide whether or not do cesarean.

That doctor is selfish enough to do advise such crazy thing with my sister. Anyway, I know that we could get justice if not in this world, with God almighty. Thank you so much.

hi jencai! im sorry to hear that. that should be the responsibility of the doctor himself because he should know what he is doing as a doctor. the ultrasound can determine the age of the baby inside the womb and if it's already matured to be born. when i was pregnant with my eldest, my blood pressure went up that's why i was hospitalized. i was only 8 months pregnant then. my doctor told us that if it pesist, i should deliver my baby thru CS taking into consideration the maturity of the baby. if at that time the baby is already matured, she will suggest to have a delivery right then. my bp went back to normal until the baby is mature but then during my labor, my bp went up again. because of that the baby's heartbeat slowed down every time i contract. and also, my pelvic bone did not open widely. and that's the time my doctor suggested the CS. but before that, she asked permission from my husband explaining to him everything. and so, i went thru an operation and luckily, we were both safe after the delivery.

Yeah, you're right and lucky for having your baby after the process. I guess that doctor would just like benefit herself without considering other people. Thank's for sharing!

sorry for what happened i felt sad to upon reading your discussion. i have four kids and they are all on normal delivery my friend has 5 babies and 4 of hers are normal and the youngest is ceasarian or what they call c section. her youngest was in a breech so she needs and she is not that big woman to deliver in normal procedures. her husband was really shock about it so they went to another doctor and ask for second opinion. the next doctor said that there are such good exercise for a mother with a breech fetus so it will still move to the right position. the obgyne taught my friend how to do the exercise but it was too late already for the baby was due next month. well for me it is still safe to get a second and third opinion in cases like this. there are cases really that the mother needs to go c section even if it is her 2nd ot 7th baby but there are reasons and you shopuld make it sure that the reasons are real. you can also see in the ultra sound how many months the baby is and if it is right to open up the tummy of the mother. ultra sounds give the right information but make sure the one who made it and read it are real and good doctors. i am sorry for what had happened. but this is really painful.

I guess it's one of my sister's mistakes. She only have her ultra sound on her 8th month's and nothing more. Maybe she's confident enough for her baby. Thank you for your sympathy.

I feel so sorry for your sister and her loss. I think the hospital was very wrong indeed. Ultrasounds usually tell how old a baby is roughly. So if a woman is unsure of her date the baby's size and stage of development can be found out. I had three ultrasounds, one at 11 weeks, one at 17 weeks and another at 20 weeks. All looked like it was going well. Then at 36 weeks my midwife sent me to the hospital for testing. She thought I had Pre Exclampsia, a dangerous condition pregnant women sometimes get. I had another ultrasound to check the well being and size of my baby. They found fluid on the brain! I found out my baby has spina bifida. The next month was very upsetting. They tries to push me into having a hospital birth but I still wanted a home birth. My baby boy was born at home and spent three weeks in the special care baby unit in hospital. So I have seen that ultrasounds don't always give the right information out and doctors can get things wrong. They say things are picked up at the 20 week scan but they are not. I am not surprised you find what happened unfair.

It's really unfair but we have not done anything against the hospital and her obygiene. They worry for the expenses it would incur.
